Hi all! Hoping for some feedback on necessity of buying a surge protector for new Rpod we just purchased. Has anyone found it necessary and if so, what did you get? Seems to be different prices out there. Thank you!

Better for seasoned RV'er to answer who has had more experience.
But as a new RPod owner and from all I've read I'd say, yes you need one.
Kind?  Well depends on budget and protection you desire.
I purchased a Progressive Industries PT30C and been quite happy with it.
Got to remember, not just surge to worry about but over/under voltage as well.
A good protector is like insurance for all electrical things in the RV.
The more insurance you buy the better protected you are.

Welcome. 5 year owner here 2012 177 pod.   Was thinking of surge protector but on fence.... Got hit with power surge from thunder storm.. Over $500 later to replace hot water element... Now have a portable surge protector. Has helped a couple times later. Up to you to get either hard wired or portable kind. We went with portable easier to replace if something goes wrong. Each person is different. But yes better to have one in my opinion.

After camping for 40 years and nearly 6 with the pod, we decided a 55 dollar investment was well worth it.  Had my brother, and electrical engineer check it out, says it works in a satisfactory manner.  The pod is in hibernation mode right now and I don't recall the name but will go out on the back 20 and get the manufacturer name if you desire tomorrow.

I would advise getting one. It's saved many a folk including me. It saved my AC when the CG voltage went down close to 100 volts. I recommend the Technology Research Surge Guard 34830 because I have one, but the PT30C should work too. It won't be cheap but Amazon seems to have them at a very good price right now:

https://www.amazon.com/Technology-Research-34830-Portable-Surge/dp/B00T36Q7R2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482805846&sr=8-2&keywords=surge+guard+30+amp

As Bama said, you need one that gaurds against high and low voltage as well as surges and miswired power poles.

+1 on the Progressive PT30c. Another advantage to the portable is that if you upgrade your trailer (as I did) you keep it with you.

The surge protector I purchased was a Progressive SSP-30x and as stated above was purchased this spring on Amazon for 55 dollars which also included shipping.  Not a bad price for the protection it offers.

Even if you get one of these, make sure you read the first article in the link in my signature - and then get the non-contact voltage tester.  Cheap insurance to save YOU.
