Back to you, Smitty (& family): A: 1983 - 2003
Loved living the 5B life and raising kids there. (Second was born there). Last employment ad exec. for Mountain Express / Real Estate Guide / Sun Valley Guide. Graphic agency/printing firm for over 10 years before that. Certainly watched the Valley grow, and then change quickly when B. Willis made his big splashdown there. (Changes mostly positive). Mostly good times in Hailey. Huge snowstorms in random years. Had to shovel our roof multiple times in 1992/93. We were skiers/snowboarders, so no complaints. We'd look out a window at Seattle Ridge on weekend mornings to decide whether or not to go skiing that day on our locals pass. Took 35 minutes to get parked at River Run. In summer it was family camping, often with tent trailer all set up within 90 minutes from the house. We soaked in a lot of Idaho hot springs. It was quite the life.... Bruno is a good idea! This summer my wife and I camped at River's Edge CG along the shores of the lazy Snake River in Wilder, ID, with a sunset reflecting in the water from the west every night. Privately run, affordable, and a very peaceful, laid-back oasis, but out in the flat country. (Trip Advisor Find). Still takes about 30 minutes to drive back into Boise. Bruno dunes would be a great base to test out Pod functions, accessories you brought, or fetch the little items you'll need to make Podding perfect in Boise. (Chinden Road has all the good specific RV-related stuff.) Good base camp also to explore the Owyhee country, or if camped in Wilder, take the T.V. up into the cool alpine regions for a day at the lake at McCall. Have a Merry Snowy Christmas and watch out for the holiday ditch-divers on 75 ! ! --Brad

B&L,
Greetings from Hailey. When did you leave the valley? We've been here since 2003. We are so excited to have the pod. As you know, so many great places to go, so close by. We are also planning to hit the Bruno Sand Dunes in the spring. Of course we'll hit the regular suspects you mentioned, along with some quality local Boondocking. We were also thinking about a trip to the OR coast this summer. Limitless opportunities. Snow is flying and Baldy is getting busy with skiers. Counting the days till we get to take the cover off and hit the road. Thanks for saying hello. Smitty

Happy Trails! We are also relatively new owners of a '17 HRE 179 model, and am quite sure that you will have successful, epic camping experiences with your Pod. It's straightforward to maintain, and responds well to personal tweaks and modifications.
I lived in the "Wood Rather Valley" for almost exactly 20 years, and we were active campers also at the time, towing a tent trailer to get back into the local spots, such as out Deer Creek, East Fork, Neal Canyon, up over Trail Creek into Copper Basin, North Fork and on over Galena Summit to Petit Lake, etc. Have good memories camping in Little City of Rocks area, and also exploring City of Rocks near Oakley. Beyond Blaine County, we loved exploring the Oregon coast in 1990s, as well. We hope you have a wonderful time at Zion this Spring, and we'd love to hear about it then. Today, our winterized WonderPod's battery is pulled, and sitting on our porch with a trickle charger hooked up. But we can't wait to explore Utah's broad cornucopia of parks, starting with Island in the Sky, in the Moab area, as well as the lesser-known parks such as Escalante and Kodachrome Basin. Happy Podding, and you'll always have a great knowledge base and positive camaraderie here in the Pod community. B & L Wonderpod (179HRE) Towed by "BG" (aka Baluga) Western NC |

We've been "tent" campers preferring to tow our drift boat behind the rig vs a TT. We made the jump Labor Day weekend. I've been glued to this forum since we decided to get our HRE 179 in late September. Got to spend our first night in the SLC KOA since absolutely everyone and their brother in the Wasatch range decided to go camping over the holiday weekend. Since back home in Idaho, we've hit City of Rocks and few local spots. We are looking forward to a trip to Zion's NP in the spring.
I've got so many great ideas and answered so many question from this site. Thanks for all of your help! Looking forward to posting my many mods, however, the cover is on and the snow is flying so pics may have to wait. Thanks again for this helpful community. Smitty
