I'm not sure if using the escape window like that is a good idea. I don't know how it is hinged at the top and if using it like that would break something or cause it to leak. The window I installed in the door of our 179 is one that opens. When we are set up and have our awning deployed, I can open that window with a good bit of confidence that rain will not get in there. Unfortunately, my homemade awning does not quite cover the bed window enough to do the same there and there is nothing equivalent for the dinette side.
One of these days, I'll figure out some sort of easy to deploy awning that I can use on the dinette side that will let me open the window and keep rain out. |

Usually it is a crimped hinge that allows the whole window to be quickly removed. I removed one of the emergency exit windows on our current camper to do some work on it and there is one potential problem using the one on the pod - if it moves side-to-side it could be difficult getting it to align again. I had this problem when I put our window back in. But otherwise I don't think there will be a problem propping it open. In fact another emergency window in our camper is designed to be propped open. It has a rod that slides outward that keeps it from sliding side-to-side (you push the rod all the way out in an emergency).

We have had no problems using the escape window as I mentioned. It gives us a lot of additional ventilation. We do not leave it open when we leave, only while on site. It is particularly nice at night as it it right next to the bed.

Thanks. It is something to consider. The layout of the 179 is such that it wouldn't do much for the sleeping area, but it would help otherwise.
