I recently bought a used 2015 R-Pod 171. Took it to Seneca Rocks, WV and had a great time. Being the maiden voyage I wanted to try all the systems. The only failure was after dumping the gray and black tanks, I hooked up the black tank rinse hose, and found water spraying out of the electrical outlet in the bed area and filling the floor under the bed.
Turns out that the circular access hole that was cut in the bed area also cut into the plumbing of the black water rinse hose. I circled the areas in the image where it was cut, the elbow was probably fine, but the cut in the hose went all the way through. I had read that some people found the flow control to be installed backwards, but mine was not. I have to assume the previous owners never used the black tank rinse hose, because it would be hard to miss the amount of water that was pouring onto and under the bed. ![]() I felt like this was within my powers to fix, and here are the parts I bought:
![]() The crimping tool was expensive, but everything else was reasonable. The steps I took were:
![]() I feel like I got up most of the water, there did seem to be some dampness in the channel where the hoses are fed from the pump/heater area on the port side to where they emerge on the starboard side for the toilet/shower. It was certainly an adventure, and I'll know better on my next purchase to test all the water systems before leaving the lot.

If you have a portable dehumidifier you can put in your trailer. Shut all the windows and bathroom vent and set it to the lowest setting. I did that when I made a mess putting in a in-line water filter. I let it run for about 4-5 hours

Stuff being wet once or twice isn't an issue.. it's long term that becomes a problem with most materials.

Hey, My first post. Very good article. I'm learning a lot about rv specific plumbing. Learning about pex plumbing. Only had a few encounters with those miserable clamps in past. Did not like them then. Like them even less now. Anyway, in your post, you mentioned a "flow control valve". I have a 2013, 178 pod that I have been working on faucet leak under the kitchen sink. I found the black water rinse hose in my travels but did not see anything like a flow control valve (one way check valve?).
Does anyone know if these valves were being installed in 2013 models? Thanks, rGod. |

I have a 2012 trailer and what you call flow control I call a vacuum breaker/check valve it’s a backflow preventer. It is required as a safety device that prevents the potable/drinkable water in your home or campground from getting contaminated. I found out 2 weeks ago mine was leaking. The easiest way for me to get at it was to pop the wall off by the bed. The wall is only stapled on and so was very easy to pry off. I did not remove the whole wall just enough to reach the valve and tighten the loose hose fitting going into it. There is a small access plate on the bedroom wall so you can access the fittings going to the sink. If you have a mirror you can stick it in that space and look down at the black plastic square thing with a hose going into the bottom and a hose coming out of the side. Our 179 has one. The hose connection is on the side near the door above the fender. The vacuum break/check valve is in the bathroom area, under the sink.
