Topic: Garage Speakers Posted: 23 Sep 2016 at 11:05am |
So I was looking at some of the newer garage model r-pods. I am very jealous of that awesome flat surface counter...that looks like a really nice upgrade over the ice chest, though I could certainly make an argument for the storage holes being pretty handy.
The thing that really caught my eye is that the speakers appear to be those "pod" speakers similar to what i see on the non-garage exteriors. Was this a cost-cutting move or has anyone actually compared the new ones to the old? I realize this is camping and this isn't a huge deal. I only ask because I had those pod speakers on my Roo and found them to be really poor to the point i rarely used them. I find the older marine speakers in the previous year garages to be actually quite nice sounding.
Just an observation and curious if they are actually pretty ok.

Buy a JBL Charge Bluetooth for about $150 and don't look back.

I have the older version marine speakers and they have a really nice full sound but trust me I totally agree. Those are fantastic Bluetooth speakers. I am not complaining in any way I just appreciate the previous for when you want to run tv sound or just want to listen to the radio. Just seemed like a minor step back, just as ditching the volume control was.

The Bluetooth speakers allow flexibility, they can be put on the fender, brought out to the picnic table or taken off site. They're fairly efficient and for their size have extraordinary sound (in the case at least of the JBL's and the Bose).
The other advantage is they will take some of the burden off the battery if you're not connected to AC. You could charge them in the car at night along with your phone. Over the course of the day running your POD sound system with both speakers consumes a bit of power.
I had bought the JBL Charge speakers back when we were still tent camping and thought I wouldn't need them any longer with our 2015 178, but have since learned how valuable the continue to be.

Being an old pod, we don't have outside speakers at all. And being a 177, no head unit to drive them anyways.. We have a JBL "CLIP".. and an iBN6 by "iHome".. both work and sound great..

The volume controls weren't ditched. That product by Jensen is end of life and no longer manufactured.

I understand...not saying Forest River just chose to eliminate the volume. I guess my point was that most changes in the pods seem to really be a nice upgrade:
- flat surface garage - smooth top stove and sink - new antenna - larger sewer holder
If I am able to find one or two things I appreciate about an older model it pleases me, lol. Stamping the speakers down in the "older is better" category and calling it good. So far I have: -garage speakers -lighter weight? -color (hey, of course it is debatable...but i like the green and tan)

Rings are cool...i bet you feel like the rest of us are just pretenders! Honestly I still think my fave is the ring generation in tan. I do like how it changes every few years....kinda fun.
