One thing we found that did help significantly was to mount a wind deflector on the car. We purchased the PurpleLineUSA's AeroPlus. Another one is Icon's AeroShield. They help with the airflow, reducing resistance. One would think that the rounded front of the R-Pod would help with aerodynamics, but it is the air coming off the top of the vehicle that needs to be deflected upward. I wrote in more detail in my mods about the AeroPlus. The AeroShield's ability to fold down is a nice feature, but the mounting of the AeroPlus worked better for us. |

Welcome, we have towed our 179 behind my sisters Pilot with no problems except awful gas mileage.
We normally get 22 to 24 not towing at 70 - 75 mph. Towing on flat level ground, no wind, cruise set at 57 we only got 10 to 11 mpg. When I tow it behind my one ton Dodge Mega Cab with a turbo diesel I get 13 mpg.

My husband and I have just purchased a new R-pod 179. We have been camping for years, first in tents, then a pop-up, then a truck camper, to an 11,000 pound fifth wheel. Now we are "downsizing," sold the fifth wheel and bought the 179. And decided to "upsize" the tow vehicle to a 2015 Honda Pilot! Great fun with new toys.
![]() We will take the 179 on a maiden voyage to Button Bay State Park in Vermont this weekend. I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of storage in the R-pod. And this forum has been wonderful for ideas and information, thank you all!
