So I am getting a 2015 Ram 2500. Will I need need to use a WDH?
I do plan on keeping the sway control for piece of mind.

I tow with a Dodge 3500 Mega Cab with just the receiver hitch and it works just fine. I wouldn't think you would need anything with the 2500.

The truck should do just fine. Check the rating of the receiver on the truck for the permissible "dead weight" on the ball. There are usually 2 weight ratings - with WD and without WD, for both tongue weight and overall trailer weight. I suspect you will be within the specifications. |

You may want a WDH for the ride quality. I didn't need it for my pod with my Suburban but I wouldn't tow w/o it.

I first towed my 179 behind my sister's Honda Pilot and didn't have anything but a straight receiver hitch and it worked just fine didn't see the need for anything else. The only draw back was the poor mileage we got.

For the mileage, check out a wind deflector such as the Icon AeroShield or the PurpleLine AeroPlus (which I have). It makes a significant difference in mileage for us. We tow our 2016 RP179 with a 2016 Ford Escape SE, 2L Ecoboost engine. Without, we were getting between 8 and 14 mpg, mostly in the 11-12 mpg range. Now we are getting 14-16.5 mpg, including in mountain terrain. This trip, we did the beginning section and end section of the Blue Ridge Parkway and still had 14+ mpg for the fill-ups that included those sections. Flatter terrain with limiting the speed to 60 mph (recommended by PurpleLine for the AeroPlus) yields the higher 16+ mpg figures. |
