Also, were you running Eco mode? If you run the generator flat out all the time, you'll burn through gas a lot more quickly. I would guess that two parallel-connected Honda 2000s would use less gas over a period of time on Eco mode than a single 2000 with Eco mode off, given a typical cycling load.

Honda's Eco-Throttle can, according to their website, reduce fuel consumption by up to 40%.  The only way you would see that kind of fuel savings, though, is you had the Eco-Throttle turned off and were running a very low load on the generator.  So dual Honda 2 kW generators will always consume more fuel than one, assuming that the wattage being consumed is the same.

I have not, but I have heard many good things about the Champion 3100 watt inverter generator, and it's over $300 less.  I would not personally consider B&S to be of higher quality than Champion given my prior experience with the latter's generators and others'.

Looks like the Champion is a good price...and you can get it with wireless remote start which would be cool...

Has anyone owned one of these and have had good or bad luck?

The Champion Power Equipment 100156 gasoline powered generator produces 2800 running watts (23 amps) and 3100 starting watts. I picked this generator because it comes with the neutral wire already bonded to the frame, and to run my air conditioner. Gross Weight 96.3 lb. (43.7 kg) $700 from Costco. The only time I have used my generator to power my AC is in my driveway to try it out. It has been a good generator, always starts, but it takes 2 people to get into my truck. If I had to do it again I would consider the 2000 watt unit. It won’t run the AC, but it is lighter and smaller in size. The Champion Power Equipment 73534i gasoline powered generator produces 1600 running watts (13 amps) and 2000 starting watts, Gross Weight 55.1 lb. (25 kg). $425 from Amazon, Parallel Power Kit for 73536i, $73. ( 2 paralleled together gives you 26 amps, more than enough to start the AC.)

I used the Honda 3000is on a 90 degree day with the AC on full blast. After the AC started I was able to turn the generator to the ECO position and run everything.
