The dealership says their insurance won't let me tow it away without a weight distribution hitch. And they say the only system that will work for this towing vehicle and trailer is the Blue Ox Sway Pro. The cost for this is $1000 installed. I don't have much experience with towing systems, but this seems a hefty price for a light trailer with 285-pound hitch weight. Is the dealership giving me the straight story here?

I would seriously get my money back and go to a different dealer. This is a huge red flag that this dealer will continually try to screw its customers.

$1k? Holy cow! There is no reason for any reputable dealer to insist you need such an expensive WDH. Even if they "suggest" a WDH, any dealer with a conscience should not hit you up for more than ~$500 installed. Your T100 can tow just fine without a WDH, it is just a matter of whether you will get driver fatigue on longer trips. Roads in MA are horrible, and sudden crosswinds can happen, so even with my beastly Tahoe the whole rig can get bouncing and swaying occasionally. Part of my motivation to get it is to make things a little easier on my wife too, if we take turns at the wheel on longer drives, no need for her to have to "white knuckle" it if I fall asleep. I bought a used E2 off craigslist last week, I'll be using it on any trips over 2 hours.

Thanks David, Wil and others: Which Fastaway E2 model do you recommend?

The "Round Bar" 600/6,000 seems to be the preferred model. I actually contacted Fastway, and the tech support guy said to go with the round bar model since it is ~$100 cheaper then the 4,500 trunnion type. Just avoid the temptation to go higher than a 6,000Lb unit, it will only make the ride too stiff.

I have heard it said before they are trying to steal your money, sorry to say I think this would apply to the dealer mentioned.

That is basically the difference between a good dealer and a bad one. Even if a good dealer does a little bit of "upsell", they would never make such ridiculous claims or try to sell you something that costs twice what you really need. The internet age will take care of that, enough bad word eventually gets around and then people will spend their money somewhere else.

This dealer is just like dealers that push warranty policies for $2k-3k that should be $1k with dealer markup. Ticks me off! ![Angry Angry](smileys/smiley7.gif)
