Hello from eastern KY! We are new to R-pod not to camping, travel or small RV's. I just bought a lightly used Model 177 and towed it back from WI this week.
 I'll throw in some observations:
Tow vehicle is a 2015 Ford Crew Cab, F-150 Sport w/5.0 V-8. Our old T@B teardrop trailer weighs 1,574#'s dry and MPG is within one MPG towing the R-pod! Seems MPG is more about wind resistance than weight.
Side winds are, however, a bit more noticeable with the 177. I have a sway control ordered for less sway. It was never to the point of a being a safety issue, even during some very seriously bad weather en-route home but still a little bit noticeable, thus the small $35 cost to add sway bar is easily justifiable.
Only current other plans to modify, etc., the R-pod:
-moving the spare to the front & add a bicycle rack on rear
-repairing the end trim on the dining bench with different fasteners
-adding a Battery Tender pigtail for battery maintenance (I like using the better designed tender brands)
-buy another tire cover as originals missing-Whats best for money and service life?
-get adj. paint poles to install cover
-ideas from here...Big smile

I am a former skilled trades guy so hope to learn and use tips here from others!

Good pick on the 177.  Have been very pleased with ours since we picked it up in March 2011.  I like your tow vehicle.  I have a 1994 F-150 with the same engine although mine has a stick (yours probably doesn't) and has nearly 302,000 miles, so you have plenty of life left in that engine.  Welcome aboard my friend.  How far are you from Wilmore?
