My wife and I have been going back and forth on which one is the better layout for us. We figured since the R-pod community is so great, maybe we should just ask people who know!
We are mainly considering the 179 and 180 although the 178 would be great if it had more storage for hanging clothes etc. There is just two of us and we love the 179 layout in general but are a bit concerned with the wet bath since we haven't used one. So the 180 keeps coming up in our discussions. The 180 seems great but since it has a really small dinette and wasn't sure about kitchen counter space for prep and such. We are also concerned about lounging around comfortably. Anyone who can weigh in on what they like or don't like on those models would be great.

Welcome to the group! We have the 179 and really love the set up an storage room. The bathroom is small, but we camp mostly at campgrounds so there is always a bath house near by.

The wet bath is okay. We have a squeegee to wipe down the two walls that are not covered by the curtain. The back wall and door are covered. The bath is small, but we figured the larger kitchen and the storage there would be of more use to us than a larger bathroom. In any case, a larger bath won't do much good if you are dry camping as 36 gallons of water do not go far. between flushes and kitchen use, you likely won't get but 2 or 3 showers before your fresh water tank runs dry, even with turning the water off while soaping and shampooing.
The kitchen is what sold us on the 179. We figured we could sacrifice on the bathroom. I really can't see trying to work with very limited counter space. The 179 is great as it gives us the room we need. and the storage space to stash the items we want to carry. |

This is the 100% most honest best way to decide the best Pod for you. Find each model you are interested in if you can at a dealer.
Now, tell the dealer you just want to spend some time in them. Go inside and sit there, pretend it's pouring rain and it's just a washout and you can't leave the Pod. Both of you find a place to sit and think about how comfortable you'd be. Then spend about 20 minutes just talking and feeling it. There are some Pod models that I honestly cannot spend 5 minutes in because of how cramped they feel or something feels out of place. Many models I can sit in with Pod friends and talk all day if I had to. Barring any amenities or space that one model offers over another, the one you feel the most comfortable trapped in will serve you best. Odd way to look at it perhaps, but Pods are small, being comfy and feeling like "this is home" is important.

Good test........we spent 2 1/2 day in our 171 and 2 days in our 179 during heavy rains down in Cape Hatteras. Your test fit perfect

All of the above is true, but misses the point - Buy a travel trailer to fit your own needs.
If you want a 'home away from home' DON'T buy a Pod. It will never serve. If you feel forced to stay inside your trailer because it's raining, DON'T buy a Pod. There's a big world out there, rainy or not, and that's what rain gear is for. I like the 171 because it's maneuverable and it DOESN'T have a heavy, leaky, motor driven slide. If you need a slide, just get a bigger travel trailer from some other manufacturer, in my view. Yes, it's small, but I knew that when I bought it, and it fits my need. |

You are right on getting the trailer that fits your needs. Your needs were filled by a 171. We have no problems with our slide (always works, no leaks, and plenty of capacity with our TV so no weight problems, so for us a 177 was ideal. If we were looking now it would likely be a 179. Both are pods and they fit us fine. |

I agree with the sit-in test. Our 171 was great for camping trips. We spent most our time outside, even in the rain (under EZ-UPs or rarely under the dome). For touring trips it was too small for the 10-12 hour stays at truck stops and Walmarts. If we had a 177 or 179 we probably wouldn't have had to upgrade because of the extra room, but the 177 wasn't even introduced until the week we picked up our 171.

I keep reading that it's best to go with a bigger tv, etc, initially because after you have a travel trailer, you will soon find that you will want to upgrade. I had the impression that you and your wife appear to want something that no one pod has, and perhaps a bigger travel trailer would better satisfy you, but shoot, whatever you want, go for it and I hope I didn't antagonize you.
