Topic: Two New 179 Mods Posted: 12 Jun 2015 at 1:16pm |
I have the same problem with my new jack, but just happened to be in situations where I didn't notice till I had had it for about six weeks - way too late to return it. Before this, three E-150 vans, one Ford Expedition, three different electric jacks - never a problem. Then I got this new jack for the Pod and the tail gate won't clear the jack. It used to be so nice to back up with the tail gate open, and end up right on the hitch.
No more!
I'm learning to live without that and to get more of the goodies out before hitching up, or to use the flip-up back window. Sure love the jack though.

My husky just barely clears on my rig. I'd bet most people don't think about that until the first time they hitch up. As for the tube - there are options out there for an adjustable tube, and one that is 61" long that will perfectly fit the frame width on the pods. Then you can just screw right into the frame to mount. That is what I did.

Yes, we tried that, it's attached with 3 bolts, so there's really only two ways it can go, with the head straight forward, or turned to the side. Turning the head to the side still doesn't give enough clearance.

Is there room to rotate the jack around 1 hole? If the head will clear the propane tank.. I don't think there is any rule that the motor has to be on the front.. It will be different then everybody else, but it should work fine and the hatch would then clear...

Thank you for your quick response. I thought it looked like an L bracket, just checking.
Thanks again,

I bought the Husky 4500 from Amazon not even thinking about clearance also(I have a 2007 Xterra). I was lucky, on level ground the rear hatch clears by 2".

Correction, I should have stated that the hose carrier is "behind" the grey water outlet, towards the rear of the vehicle, not in front of.

First off, understand, I didn't do this myself, my local RV service/repair shop did the work for me. The mounting brackets on the hose carrier (which I bought at Camping World) were 64" OC. The frame on the 179 was a few inches shorter, so what they did was make a sort of "L-shape" bracket, which attached to the frame and to the hose carrier, as you can see in the pic. The carrier was placed just in front of the grey water outlet. That location was about the only place it could go, farther back there is a LP line which runs along the bottom of the frame, and any farther back or forward you'd have interference with the corner stabilizer jacks. Here's another pic showing the other side, so I can access the hose carrier from either side:

We are going to install 64 inch hose tube also. What did you us to attach it with on the outside of the frame?
