Topic: Two New 179 Mods Posted: 11 Jun 2015 at 8:33pm |
Made two big changes to my 2016 179: Installed a 64" RV sewer hose tube. The one that came with the 179 was 24", not big enough to carry my 15' hose. Installed a Barker electric tongue jack. Only downside to that is, can't open the rear hatch on the Xterra while hooked up, oh well!

You'll appreciate that electric jack.

It's funny, I bought the jack on Amazon, and I was concerned about the clearance, made sure it fit, and not be too close to the LP tank, and it didn't even occur to me to check the clearance the other way, to be able to open and close the rear hatch.

We are going to install 64 inch hose tube also. What did you us to attach it with on the outside of the frame?

First off, understand, I didn't do this myself, my local RV service/repair shop did the work for me. The mounting brackets on the hose carrier (which I bought at Camping World) were 64" OC. The frame on the 179 was a few inches shorter, so what they did was make a sort of "L-shape" bracket, which attached to the frame and to the hose carrier, as you can see in the pic. The carrier was placed just in front of the grey water outlet. That location was about the only place it could go, farther back there is a LP line which runs along the bottom of the frame, and any farther back or forward you'd have interference with the corner stabilizer jacks. Here's another pic showing the other side, so I can access the hose carrier from either side:

Correction, I should have stated that the hose carrier is "behind" the grey water outlet, towards the rear of the vehicle, not in front of.

I bought the Husky 4500 from Amazon not even thinking about clearance also(I have a 2007 Xterra). I was lucky, on level ground the rear hatch clears by 2".

Thank you for your quick response. I thought it looked like an L bracket, just checking.
Thanks again,

Is there room to rotate the jack around 1 hole? If the head will clear the propane tank.. I don't think there is any rule that the motor has to be on the front.. It will be different then everybody else, but it should work fine and the hatch would then clear...
