Generator overload

   Hello,We just purchased a 2015 182 G and wrapped up our 3 day shakedown.
One of the issues we experienced was with our new Yamaha EF 200 IS generator. Let me start by saying the shakedown was at a site with no electrical or water hook up as our goal was to test all the pod systems. 
After firing up the generator i plugged it into the power cord attached to the RPOD. The RPM immediately increased and after a few minutes returned to a slow idle. I inspected the gen and noticed that the red "Overload"light was illuminated red. I reset the generator and it did the same thing. 
I tried the second Yamaha ( we bought 2) and the same thing happened. 
It was only after tying the two units together with the parallel power cables that i was able to power the RPOD.
i would like to add that i tried shutting all the lights, water pump ,water heater etc. while running on one gen .
Any input / ideas would be appreciated.

	What did you have on? A single 2000 will not handle the air conditioner or the microwave/convection oven. You said you had the water heater off, I presume you mean you had the electrical element on the water heater off. Just turning off the switch on the panel doesn't do it, that only turns off the gas portion of the water heater. The power convertor can be drawing up to 400 watts or so under heavy charging of the battery, add in A/C or WH or MW and you are well over the 1600 watt continuous rating of the generator. If you had the water heater/air conditioner/microwave off then there is either an electrical issue with your pod or both generators are defective- which is very unlikely.

	morty: i'm curious as well. with one gen hooked up, exactly what were you trying to run off it? i'm reading it as if you plugged in and nothing else was on. hogone

	I agree the 2000 should have no problem running the pod. Including converter, all lights, water pump, fan, television, furnace, and water heater on LP mode (which still requires a 12 volt supply), and any phones or laptops you need to charge. Excluding electric water heater element, A/C, and microwave. I'd bet Budward is right and your electric water heater element is on. It is easiest to leave the black switch on (the one outside directly on the water heater) and turn if off via the circuit breaker on the converter.

	Thanks very much for the replies. It was indeed the electrical water heater element. Tested this when i got home today, turned off the the water heater circuit breaker on the converter and no overload on the single generator. I hope this post goes out to all that replied to my inquiry. We will be continuing our shakedown this weekend. Fingers crossed :) Thanks again Morty

	There is a switch in the outside access pannel for the water heater to turn the electric element on or off. At least there is on my new 178.

	Yup, but as I mentioned above it is a lot easier to use the circuit breaker than the outside switch.
