All: Just bought a new 2015 179. It has 2 sets of low point water drains. Each ahs a cold and hot water drain. These lines are threaded and a screw cap is on them.
Idea: Thinking of installing a temporary (set up and remove at campsite) outside shower on one of these. They are located on back side behind and in front of axle. I can connect lines to a shower control and a shower head. Hang on side of unit and set up a shower screen. Any issues with my idea? Thanks Bob |

have you picked up your new 179 already? the newest Pods off the assembly lines now all have outdoor showers on them from factory. but if it's that you bought one from a lot from earlier in the production year, hmm, that seems like a valid idea you have. only that each time you went to connect it you would be emptying your Pods water system while you were screwing your connections on. you'd perhaps want to add a permanent ball valve or something on each line that you could just open and close when connecting and disconnecting. oh and congratulations on your Pod!!!

I wonder, generally, what campers use the outside shower for? It seems to be a popular accessory, but I must be missing something because I'm not really sure what I would do with one. What do you'all use your outside showers for?

dirty feet, dirty dog, hand washing, uhm wash off sand after a day at the beach. on a hot day we will actually use ours just to spray some cold water on ourselves to cool down a bit as well.

My 2015 is first of the year run and does not have outside shower. Like to see new model and see where they put it. Yes..would install value before shower connections. Outsie shower very usefully for clean up, beach camping and to take a shower :)

Almost no water comes out IF you have the faucets closed when you remove the caps, ie no make up air, no water flow. I changed my front set of drains to have a pair of brass faucets instead of the caps....I can connect anything I want to them, a shower, a hose etc. Mainly wanted an easy outside connection for any emergency dog washing, sometimes they get into things you'd rather not have inside

I considered this option when I added a shower years ago - adding valves, quick disconnects, etc. The biggest downside I could think of was it added time and steps to the setup and takedown routines. One of the things we loved about moving from a popup to the pod was the reduced "fiddle factor" when we got to camp and then left camp. Plus by the time you buy the parts to add the removable shower, you might as well just get the permanent shower, which if you do it yourself is about $50 plus the parts to splice into the existing water lines.
We loved the outside shower on our popup and it was one of the first mods I wanted. You can add "do your dishes outside" to the list of uses mentioned above. Edit: my post from when I had it added: http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2009

techntrek..I agree and like the dealer mod in adding the shower. Can anyone tell me where the factory is placing the one in the new 2015 ?
If I add I was afraid it would hurt the warranty. Just bought 09/16. |

slideout side right up against the back wall, at around the same height up as your bottom fridge vent on the outside. so there in the open space of your kitchen cabinets
