Calendar Event: New Rpod Posted: 20 Aug 2014 at 8:54am |
We are buying a new 2015 Rpod 178, and unfortunatley it doesn't come with an Rdome, which after doing alot of research, we have decided that we would like to have one. If anyone is interested in selling one please let us know. Thank you very much!

Congratulations on the Pod, good luck on your dome search. How much is your dealer asking for one?

$750 which seems a bit excessive. Has anyone had any luck with buying a screen tent with 2 doors and attaching it to the rpod instead of using the rdome?

Someone on this forum has the contact info for buying the Rdome directly from Forest River at quite a savings. I'm sure that they'll pipe up soon.

Hahah, i'll pass the credit along to where it is due. FurPod is the originator of it!

Before you spring the bucks for a dome, make sure it's what you need/want. Many people on the forum have used them many ways. Some use them as a room, others just as an awning, and combinations in-between. There's a thread about how people use them. There are also threads about inexpensive alternatives that people have done that create excellent awnings. You might want to do some camping with the pod before you decide.
Personally, we only use ours on campouts of at least 3 nights and find it helpful in rainy and/or hot weather. We only put the sides up, no front, and it allows us to keep the windows and door open in the rain. Also keeps the direct sun off the windows. For those purposes we didn't need a $750 dome, but it came with the camper.

$750 is probably the highest price I've read, definitely pass on that. You might find 1 or two EZ-ups will work fine, especially if you often camp in unlevel, rocky areas.

Thanks all for the helpful information. We were able to get the dealer to order the drone directly from forest river for $400.

The problem I've found with the EZ Ups is they aren't tall enough to clear the top of the door on our 177 with axle risers (or before we installed the axle risers)

True, they can't be used against the pods, but that's rarely an issue for us.
