Anyone else take a gas or electric smoker with them camping? My wife received one last year as a anniversary present at work(35 years). It is a Camp Chef propane fired smoker. We hauled it camping once last year & drove the neighbors crazy with the pork tenderloin, ribs & bacon that we smoked on Saturday afternoon. Upon getting our 178, I will be checking to see if it will sit in the pod comfortably & checking to see what I need to do to provide a port from the pod propane tank, to the smoker. We eat good when we camp....Its all about the food.

We have/had? a Cameron stovetop smoker and I tried using it once or twice for chicken and ribs. Basically I forgot to open it up outside when the cooking was done because our old place didn't have a stove top vent and set the smoke alarms off.
![]() The chicken and ribs were good and I like how it works with any heat source. Plus it's only the size of a 9 x 13 pan so the amount is perfect for the both of us plus a bit of leftovers. I may get another one as I'm not sure if it's one of the things Sandy took. If your main unit is too big, the Cameron Stovetop Smoker would be a good size as a grill accessory for the pod.

Ooh, now your talking a passion of mine! Pastrami Katz Deli style from amazingribs.com, Ribs Meathead style (amazingribs.com), Pulled Pork Alton Brown Style, and smoked chicken Alex Jones style I love torturing family with pictures and neighbors with smell!
My setup w/Smokenator 1000 and Weber Performer would be a bit much to take camping, but I do smoke ahead of time and reheat when we get where we're going. My smoking sessions with brining and prep and smoke time usually take a day or two for chicken and pork and up to two weeks for pastrami. Recently I tried a Crock Pot pulled pork recipe. A crock pot will easily run off a small inverter on the back seat floor of my TV. Imagine arriving at campsite after a long day of driving and the pulled pork is ready to serve! It actually turned out pretty good, but I decided the aroma of it cooking in my car would be wayy too distracting. Here's some torture pics from a few smoking sessions on the back patio using hardwood charcoal, cherry and/or apple wood smoke... Looks yummy. Anyone have a Big Green Egg? We were thinking of getting a XS for the pod but were advised to get a S by the eggforum. Then we found out how much they weigh so we've been holding off.

Hi g4royce,
I don't have an egg, but have heard good things about them. I opted for a Weber Q 2200 for podding: I also bought a 6 foot propane extension hose and a 1 gallon refillable propane tank ($4.00/fill here): The grill w/cover and accessories fit nicely in a Home Depot plastic tub w/lid so there is very little, if any, odor in back of TV. On a trip a couple of weeks ago I was convinced it was the right decision, roasting two whole chickens under the r-dome in a cold and driving rain. fred

We have a Brinkman smoker made of cast iron weighing about 600 lbs. Certainly not campable, if that is a word. I have been toying with the idea of a Rock Stoker Kit which maintains the temp with computer controlled fan. Finally broke down and ordered one yesterday. Making a batch of ribs today from the Neely's recipe. My next door neighbor also has the big Brinkman and he is smoking a brisket this afternoon. With the addition of the stoker kit, I won't have to baby sit the temperature of the smoker and will just have to add lump charcoal from time to time. Should be able to use the smoker more often. Salivating as I write this. Safe Travels.
