Aaahh- if it is on the coupler that has little to do with rated tongue weight of the trailer, just the coupler. If it is actually stamped in the frame material- well mine doesn't have that.
For example I have a 7000lb rated car trailer with a Bulldog coupler on it rated for 14,000 lbs! The rated max tongue weight for that should be something like 2000+ lbs but no way the trailer tongue would take that. Interesting story on that car trailer, I had to buy it quick to make an unexpected out of town trip to retrieve a car, actually in Westminster MD as it were. After buying it I noticed the coupler was rated for 5000 lbs- on a 7000 lb capacity trailer. Called the manufacturer who seemed unconcerned at first. I explained a lawyer litigating a wreck where a coupler failure was an issue would own them, since they used an underrated coupler.. They called me back a day or so later and sent a welder from GA to SC to cut off all the trailer couplers at the dealer and replace them with heavier rated couplers, including mine of course. I'm guessing this was after they ran it past their lawyer ![]() |

Hmmm..interesting- mine has nothing stamped on the tongue except the serial number.
It is a pretty lightweight frame, stamping the serial number actually dented the frame tubing a little! |

The weight limit is stamped onto the tongue, on mine it reads 700 pounds max tongue weight. However, you'll probably run into your max TV's tongue weight as your limiting factor.

To any one who may have an answer. We have the 171 2011 & I am in the process of adding a generator tower like the one shown in r pod mods. My question has to do with weight limits on the tongue. I have moved the spare there for a bike rack behind the pod. I would also like to add a second battery & a second propane tank. I am also using a weight distribution with sway bar on my set up.

We're looking at the pod as our 'shore' cottage. So with a little help from a parent's estate and our retirement nest egg, we should be able to swing it.

I'd get a 178 now if I could, would love the extra room for the big trips, but too many other plans right now to spare the cash. All new kitchen for the house, new tires for the TV, possibly a new generator, etc. etc.

Yeah, Doug, look it all that room! Chris took one look and said "That's it- that is the one we want!"
More power you and your family in the 171 on that long trip you have planned, but us older folks like a little room, not to mention an easier way to get out of bed! Plus she wants to get a Doberman - not a small critter... Also like the kitchen area with room to work, do dishes, etc. and room for a dog bed! Not too much added weight for the TV with its 7500 lb capacity, too. Walt |

I would go to forest river's website and pull up rpods. From their click on dealer locator to see the dealers in your area that sell rpods. I would think all rpod dealers will sell this floor plan. It's very popular. I even have one on order.
