We're home after a week in Ruidoso, NM. It was a test for the new car which performed wonderfully. Granted we weren't in the Rockies, but the car easily maintained 60-65 mph in the hills. We checked the miles per gallon going home. The first half of the trip we drove 70-75. Then checked the mileage, saw we were getting just over 8 per gal. so dropped the speed to 60-65. So for the 586 miles we drove home, we averaged 9.6 miles per gallon. Not great, but expected.

We're leaving again later in the month for our trek to the rally in Indiana. We've traveled a bunch, but never in Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin or Minnesota. We'd like to travel for a couple of days, then stay put for 2 or 3 days before heading out again. Just wondering if you fellow podders have any suggestions in the states of Missouri, Indiana, northern Kentucky - some of the states we may travel through going north. Then at the rally, hope to find out more about Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Thanks in advance for your input.

What did you see while in Ruidoso?

What is your actual route plan? If coming up I-65to the rally, I can suggest a couple places, as can kymooses, but more importantly, we are caravaning Sunday from the Louisville area.. the more pods the better..

I don't know if this helps, but a couple years ago we spent a week in a campground near Paducah, KY just across the state line in Illinois.  The town is Metropolis but I can't recall the name of the park.  Dar tells me it is  Ft. Massac.  Dar went to the quilt show and I hung around and explored.  It is a well kept, long established camp ground and the sounds of the river traffic heard.  I will camp there again.

Most of the state parks in Indiana are nice. Brown County State Park has a lot of very nice, shaded campsites and a lot of hiking trails. And a few wineries in the area, if you enjoy wine. For those caravanning from Louisville, we're in Indianapolis and could join you if the schedules mesh!!

We are meeting at mile marker 22 rest area on I-65 in Indiana at 0930..  My route plan is to go to Indy on I-65, then I-69 towards Ft Wayne, pick up Indiana 33.. follow that to Goshen..

So we should roll through Indy about 1130, and my guess is Goshen around 1430-1500, depending on stops, and the fact that kymooses and us both set our cruise controls around 60(ish) (wait 'till we get old and slow!!!)

Ditto on Brown County State Park. Very nice. A caravan of pods going down the highway would certainly turn some heads. I would love to see that!!!

MoosePod's highway speed is 61 or 62 if I'm paying attention.  If me and the DW are talking to each other it's 58-60!

Oh and if there are hills it's 40......

Confused

Oh and if the weather is nice it's about 55!  hehe

On our summer adventure, we spent a few nights in Bardstown, KY at the state park and hit the Bourbon Trail. That was fun!!   We also stayed a nice KOA just SW of St. Louis on the way back.
