Hi,
Did a search but didn't find any mention of this...I recently bought my R-Pod (09 P-152) and was surprised to find the normal 30A plug on the outside of the trailer is in fact a marine-style connection. Has anyone seen this before? Any idea why this would be set up like this?

Only a guess. Since this was the first year of manufacture, I suppose FR originally used this type of cover until they did more searching and found the type that was on my 2013 trailer. Safe Travels.

As far as I know, every camper out there with a detachable shore power hook up has the style. No need to fix what ain't broke.
I recently helped a buddy convert from a stowable cord to detachable, the socket and ends were "marine". His stowable cord was ALWAYS getting tangled or hung up in it's little storage area under the kitchen cabinets, it was so bad he had added a hinged door inside to be able reach in..

| My 2013 172 has the same connector. This connector has three characteristics:
1. The connector itself is a twist lock to prevent inadvertent disconnect. 2. The shell has a screw backshell to relieve strain. 3 It's expensive.
Overall a good design. FR's still using it. I think most campers use this if they have detachable power cords. The cheapies have a non-detachable cord you have to shove to store.

This is the same connector I have on my 2011 173. It is the same type of connector used on 30 amp shore power for boats. I am guessing that Forest River uses is because it is a waterproof locking connector. I know that Marinco for instance makes this type receptacle for both boats and RVs.

That's the right connector. Just be glad campgrounds don't use the twist lock connectors on their end too like marinas do.
The price of extension cords with twist lock on both ends will take your breath away.

Agree with above, this is the usual connection used on the pods and many other campers. The socket end of the cord that attaches to the pod stopped making a good contact this spring (after just 3 1/2 seasons) so I replaced it with a standard 30 amp twist lock outlet. This one doesn't have the threads on the outside. The cover on the plug built into the pod cracked off several winters ago, I haven't replaced it yet.

So if I am reading the post correctly, this connector should be able to pull away from the trailer somehow? I tried yanking and twisting it but it didn't budge.

The plug end (the part on the pod shown above) is permanently attached. The socket end (on the cord) will not come off when attached to the pod correctly - plug in and twist a quarter turn clockwise. Then turn the threaded ring on the outside clockwise to finish.

If the cable is connected to the trailer and you want to detach it, reverse Doug's instructions above. Twist the black locking ring counterclockwise until it is loose. It may take some muscle. Then twist the connect (attached to the cord) one quarter turn counterclockwise and pull out. The cable should come loose in your hand.
