the current is beautiful, upper jacks too; but will probably be to low at that time as you really only want to do the upper section(lower part pretty uneventful); stay away from weekend canoeing at that time of the year, loaded with people; the eleven point is a very nice river as well; yes there are plenty of outfitters around to assist with shuttling; let me know if you want any other info, ie specific areas, etc.  hogone

Tricera, you are visiting some of my favorite places this summer: Fort Pickens, Mississippi. I'll be in Arkansas for my daughters wedding at the same time you will be there. We'll be staying in a park near Pocahontas. Have fun and be safe out there.

We tend to camp in National or State parks. Seems to work for us. Our goal is to visit all 401 National Parks/Monuments and all the Heritage Areas and Trails of the National Parks system. Since I retired we have visited 142 National Parks/Monuments. We have visited parts of 35 . Heritage Areas & Trails. Most of these trails and Heritage areas cover so much area it is very hard to visit the entire area in one visit. You could but it take some time. We collect the National Parks Passports from each park Some parks have only one stamp, others have many. Just in the state of Virginia there are 180 stamps to collect, which means lots of places to visit and learn about.
