I noticed some folks post their trips so with that in mind here is our summer adventure:
Depart 1 July: Leave VA
Sites to see in GA from 1-3 July, Andersonville NM, Jimmy Carter NHS, Ocmulgee NM. Camp sites at GA State Parks, Alex. Stephens, Reed Bignham and/or GA Vet. Mem.SP. All the NP/NM we have visited before so these will be quick stops. The Peanut butter ice cream in Plains, GA is GREAT.

3-4 July we will be spending time at Fort Pickens, Fort Pickens and Naval Live Oaks part of the NP's system.

5-8 July we will be visited the state of LA. from the southern end in New Orleans to the northern end at Poverty Point. One highlight will be Avery Island.

9-14 July will be spent in MS. following the Natchez Trace. Stops in Vicksburg NHP, Natchez Trace NHS and Petrified Forest. We will follow the Trace to Corinth, MS where we will attended the annual National Parks Travelers Club annual convention.

15 July- we will spend the night at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN. A stay in this hotel has been on Sandee's bucket list for a long time. Not sure where we wil park the Pod.

16-26 July- will find us in AR, visiting such sites as Arkansas Post NM, William Clinton NHS, Crater of Diamonds SP, Hot Springs NP, Pea Ridge NB, Trail of Tears sites and Fort Smith NHS. During this time we will spend time looking for diamonds and crystals.

26-28 will find us in OK, going to National Park sites in the Cherokee Nation area.

27 July -4 Aug will find us in MO visiting such sites as George Washington Carver NHS, Wilson Creek NB, and maybe a quick trip into Nebraska to visit Fort Scott NHS, but a good portion will be spent in Ozark NRA. Maybe some canoe trips up and down the river. MO has some great State Parks so we will be spending allot of time in these sites.

4-10 Aug will find us making our way to Shawano, WI to visit family and to attended her tribal Pow Wow. We missed last years event so she needs to be there this year.

11-24 Aug will find us making our way to Sidney, MT to meet up with our local (Virginia) Gem and Mineral club field trip to hunt for Montana Moss Agates. Stops along the way will include, Badlands NP (4th visit), Wind Cave NP (2 visit), and Mammoth Fossil site all in SD.
The we move on over to WY to visit Devils Tower (2 visit) and maybe over to a fossil site in Thermopolis, WY if there is time.

Moving up north to MT visits include, Nez Perce NHP Canyon Creek Battlefield. We have been to Little Big Horn before so it is not on the list this time. Then we move east towards Sidney, MT with a stop at Makoshika SP which has a dinasour museum and dig site in addition to camping sites Finally we make it to Sidney, MT. We will make base camp in the northern unit of Theodore Roosevelt NP.

After all our summer travels it will be a straight shot back home to Virginia with no stops.

Trip will be a BIG shake down cruise in our new R-Pod 177.

That's a great lineup, you'll get a lot of time to explore things better than we will on our trip.  We'll be a few days behind you in GA (going to Atlanta then Tybee Island), then just miss you in New Orleans (10th - 13th).  Looks like we may overlap at the Crater of Diamonds, we'll be there 20th-21st.

Our dates may change a bit while on the road. Our only must be "there" dates are for the NTPC convention, Peabody Hotel and Craters of Diamonds SP. We have reservations at these locations that we can not change. Everything else on the list I am sure will adjust one way or the other while we are on the road.

Sounds like a very all encompassing trip.  Many years ago I was stationed at NAS Millington, outside of Memphis, which was a Naval Air station training base.  Being a young man and wanting to impress the ladies, I took the bus into Memphis on Saturdays and pampered myself by going to the Peabody Hotel and having a haircut, manicure and shoe shine, downstairs at the barber shop.  Never forgot the ducks swimming in the hotel lobby pool.  They have a schedule where they swim for so many hours and then leave the lobby pool, head to the elevator where they are transported to their quarters on the roof and then another group come down and continue to swim.  Delightful!!  I believe the Peabody was built early in the 1900's for the cotton brokers coming to town.  Very high end hotel.  Hope it still maintains its reputation.  Haven't thought about the Peabody in many many years.  Enjoy.  Safe Travels.

Camper Bob, I also spent many months at NAS Memphis going to "A" school; and then a few years later "C7" school. Sounds like you had more disposable income than I did; but I did spend time in nearby Shake-rag in Shelby Forest. Looking back; it was good times; but at the time didn't think so.

Hogone,
Not sure which one just yet. Like allot of things we do we have a basic plan, but like all plans they go out the door when we start having fun. We would like to canoe the river in the Ozark NSR area. It all depends at which camp ground we stay in. Reading the brouchers from the park there are many concessioners who provide services so we will pick one and go from there I guess. We do not have our own canoe, just one more thing to carry so e would rather rent right now.

the current is beautiful, upper jacks too; but will probably be to low at that time as you really only want to do the upper section(lower part pretty uneventful); stay away from weekend canoeing at that time of the year, loaded with people; the eleven point is a very nice river as well; yes there are plenty of outfitters around to assist with shuttling; let me know if you want any other info, ie specific areas, etc.  hogone

Tricera, you are visiting some of my favorite places this summer: Fort Pickens, Mississippi. I'll be in Arkansas for my daughters wedding at the same time you will be there. We'll be staying in a park near Pocahontas. Have fun and be safe out there.

We tend to camp in National or State parks. Seems to work for us. Our goal is to visit all 401 National Parks/Monuments and all the Heritage Areas and Trails of the National Parks system. Since I retired we have visited 142 National Parks/Monuments. We have visited parts of 35 . Heritage Areas & Trails. Most of these trails and Heritage areas cover so much area it is very hard to visit the entire area in one visit. You could but it take some time. We collect the National Parks Passports from each park Some parks have only one stamp, others have many. Just in the state of Virginia there are 180 stamps to collect, which means lots of places to visit and learn about.
