Topic: Grill suggestions Posted: 17 May 2013 at 6:53pm |
Happily camping in our new 176T that we picked up on Thursday. LOVING it except I really miss my mounted gas stove on my Pop UP. Hate cooking inside. Any suggestions on a compact grill with burners? Obviously want something that can pack up easily. I usually use charcoal for grilling but do like to use a burner now and then R-Pod is working great Just started raining and had a little trouble with the Dome, instructions were terrible... as if they were for a different canopy altogether but we got it up in the nick of time. Nice extra room especially when raining. Just finished beef stroganoff that I cooked in my Lodge cast iron dutch oven over coals.. Yum...
Country Roads RV did an excellent job with our orientation and our trade in on our used Viking. Highly recommend them.

Haven't replaced the one that came with our Pod yet. But I've seen a lot of people use these and I'm very fond of the reviews on them also.
This is what I would eventually get I think.

We have had our R-pod 171 since 2009 and love it. We used a little silicon spray in the dome track and have our time down to about 10 minutes for set up. We also previously had a pop-up with the attached outside gas grill and loved it. We now have a Weber Q which is compact and very handy, we use it all the time! Enjoy!

Weber Baby Q100 is a great little grill, IMHO. I love mine.

When we bought our RP 175 we went looking for a Weber, which we've had before and really liked. Unfortunately we couldn't find one with the features we wanted that was squat enough to fit in our Pod storage compartment. We ended up with a Coleman RX which is big, but fits the compartment. It has both grill and griddle areas. It's very nice. In fact, it's the only grill we now own. We leave the stand at home, and when camping grill on the picknic table or tailgate. Either Weber or Coleman are good quality grills.

We might be called "cheap" or frugall.. But we picked up our second little gas bbq from wallyworld for ( I think) $30 when they go on sale. It fits nicely in the storage compartment and does the job from foil poatatoes, steaks, pork chops, french toast etc. When the one we are using now bites the dust we have the new one already to go.

We don't have Wallyworlds around here...however I am looking for more of a cooktop to boil, etc than a grill as we have a great charcoal that we use for that.....under r-dome right now and its starting to leak.???? Thought it was waterproof..a little disappointed.

I have a little cheep grill that I use to grill but for cooking I have a coleman 2 burner propane camp stove that I have had for years. I very seldom use the cooktop in the trailer.

Never had a problem with the Dome leaking, in fact we only use it on rainy weekends (or week-long trips). As for an outside grill/stove, we love the Camp Chef line.
