Topic: Lost tire tread Posted: 24 Apr 2013 at 6:53pm |
Where you using the electric braking? There could have been some conflict between the TV braking and the TT braking causing heating in the tire. I'm thinking that the TT could have been trying to hold the TV back, which would be akin to burning out. Glad it worked out okay and thanks for sharing.

They are the original Power King tires that came on the trailer. The tread lost a large section without blowing out and coming completely off, about half of the tire affected. They were 3 years old in feb.?
I am trying to get a fender, any ideas how to contact parts?

The temp was about 90 out, we were coming down a long hill from 6000 feet to 600 feet, about 5 miles, and going about 57 mph. The tread separated and broke off part way, not the whole tire.

So glad you are safe ... could have been really bad!
Does anyone know how many miles the tires are "rated" for?

Everyone needs to check both sides of each tire for any cracks that might mean that the tread belt has deteriorated. I frequently checked the 'outer' side of my tires on a previous trailer. My brother stopped over while I was preparing for a trip. He slid under the trailer and pointed out several cracks. The tire had to be replaced.

Plenty of tread only 5000 miles at most, trailer tires are not like car tires time is more of a concern

Wow, glad all are safe, can you estimate the miles you had on your tires, or the tread depth when they failed ?
