The safety record for these is good, and while not what any one needs for an only car it will be fine for a commuter. Thanks for all the suggestions.

We saw a show on TV about how they crash test cars in the E.U. and one of the cars shown was a Smart.. I have to say, the test they showed.. I thought it did very well. I wouldn't own one.. but they do appear to be way safer than a guy who's daily driver is an Expedition, and when I really need to haul something, an Excursion, would have thought. We have a VW GTI (our 4th) for fun and goofing.. it gets pretty darn good mileage for the smileage.. Way better than the old Mustang.. but it's ALL smiles..

So will this fit in the garage of a 181 or 182?

I'm 6'4"....I have a 64 mile round trip drive. I bought a Ford Escape Hybrid for my work commute. I get 32 mpg in winter...30 or so in summer due to a/c. I fit nicely....more room than my Explorer and double the mpg. It is also All-wheel drive which gives me secure feeling when driving all winter. Ford stopped making it when they went to the new Escape platform which I think is Fusion based. I like it for my size.
You may want to check out the Ford C-Max Hybrid. Better MPG than the Smart car, much bigger and more practical. My friends In-Laws bought one and love it. I test drove it and I fit nicely. Seems like a nice car. May be more $ than the Smart. I have read a lot of mixed reviews in Smart. Not much bang for the buck except the 40 mpg and many bigger more standard cars beat that now. Something to consider.
Good luck, hope the Smart works out.

I am 6'1 and it has plenty of legroom. The front seating is like a normal car. There just isn't any more. And so far it hasn't seemed a problem on the road. It does give me the creeps when I see one next to a bus or a semi.
It is very well equipped, but does not ride nearly as well as my truck. Short wheel base etc. But the 40 mpg will pay for it in short order. It is used and I got it for a great price.

Smart! Very Smart.
Keith, may I ask how tall are you? How comfy is it? How much leg room? Do you feel a semi wind tunnel want to suck you under the wheels when traveling on the freeway? Very curious to see how Smart of an idea this is.

I can't find any manufacturers info on tow capacity. In fact I am trying it for a week to see if it will haul my big keester down the road for my 90 mile round trip to work. It is not cheap using my F-150.

Keith/Dar, I think you would be better off hooking the t.v. behind the pod and hoisting the sail's you would make better time.
