One reason I bought a Pod was so that I could get away from crowds. I previously owned a large RV. I was generally restricted to commercial campgrounds because many public NF/NP/SP campgrounds have length restrictions. After many trips, I found that most scenic locations did not have a KOA, etc., so I had to haul a tow-behind just to go from the campground to the places I wanted to see. I traded in the RV for my Pod and never regretted it. It is short enough to fit in any public campground and also fits in out of the way non-campgrounds. Some National Forests will allow you to park/camp in areas where there are no campsites.
Some people need the conveniences of a commercial campground, but I don't need a heated swimming pool, grocery store, etc. when I go camping. In fact, just the opposite.

It doesn't show up while in a THREAD.. go up a level to the "room" level, and you should see "new thread" button, and  "new poll" buttons..

I can't change the topic into a poll, at this point.  Perhaps Admin can????  Newbies/Groupies/Senior Members all have the same "rights", so that's not it.  A person is a "newbie" until they have posted 50 times.  50-99 times - a "groupie".  100 or more - a "senior member".  The software auto assigns this based on the number of a member's posts.  Again, everyone has the same rights, regardless.
 
As the others have mentioned, when you first started this topic, there should have been 2 "buttons" near the top of the page; "New Topic" and "New Poll".  Try to do a "New Poll" and let us know if it does not work (you don't have to actually do a poll.....just cancel/close/use your "back button" and it won't be saved or posted). Wink
 
In answer to your question/poll.....
I much prefer National & State Parks.  I DO prefer commercial/private campgrounds for just overnights/enroute to the parks - as they tend to be close to the highway and have some food and some supplies (if needed).  In my experience, they seem to put the campsites really close together and, in general, are not very scenic. 
 
With National & State parks, well.......a few pictures are worth a few thousand words.....

And you end up with a very happy camping K9 Smile.
 
All for only about $20 per night!
 
Parks......for sure.

I just checked the forum setup and sure enough, Guests and Newbies can't start polls.  I'm guessing that was the default from the software when the forum was first set up.  

I also checked and I can't convert this to a poll after-the-fact either.

We definitely gravitate to the Florida State Parks, at least so far.  I totally agree with the comments about scenic value and site density.  Having said that, we have reservations at Gamble Rogers State Park in November, and those sites look pretty close together, (and small!).  The allure is that they are perched atop the primary dune with the Atlantic Ocean within spittin' distance!  Upside, Down side, I guess....

I mostly camp near by (when I can get out) in Elkmont, National Park. No hook ups, bathrooms , running cold water, nice little concession that includes firewood since we can not bring wood inCry.
The view is fantastic, large spaces, not packed next to one another. Looks like what David does.
Reasonable regulations. $20 dollars a night, $23 if you have river site. With my senior pass I get it for $10 nightly. Camp hosts until 29-31 October. honor system for month of November, just one part of campground open then, first come , first serve.

For some reason with the POPUP and 30 foot trailer we always went to public campgrounds. Could have been we were traviling with kids and it gave them a pool and place to ride bikes.  With the RPOD it has been just the flip side in all the trips we have taken it jas been State / County / Fed Parks, or we are dry camping it at some Girl Scout Camp working.  Only once has it been a public camp ground.  The kids are grown up now and not coming with us or if they do we are kayaking.

Hubby decided he did not want to camp anymore, motorcoach got too big and too much for him, so I went out and re-equipped myself with tent, dug through the attic and basement for old tenting gear and the dog and I would go.....think he thought I needed a little more than that ,,,,, hence the Pod. AND IT IS a little more, believe me, when I had to learn everything, including never having pulled a thing. This year out only once due to health and company and new dog, etc... will be like learning all over again when that much time has passed.Embarrassed Have one private campground I really like, full hookups. But going out closer to home and no hookups at all. Just want to get out at least this once before the Winterizing starts.
