I finally broke down and set the hitch on our 177 down on a scale this morning - - 279.2 lbs

The brochure (for the base 177 model) indicates that the hitch weight should be 232. Ours is a Hood River Edition, so that might account for some of the variance. Another thing is that I added 2 Group 29 battery boxes on the frame with U-bolts to store the wood for under the hitch pole and stabilizers (but they were empty for this measurement. Our propane tank gauge is still in the "green"    ...but it's not full. There are a few items forward of the axle in the compartments under the seats but otherwise nothing added.

Anyone else measure the hitch weight on a 177 HRE lately ??

The hitch weight in the brochure does not include the propane tank or battery. It also does not include the AC Which I think is just forward of the axle so some of the weight is carried on the tongue. I think that could easily account for 47.2 lbs.

Thanks    ...really didn't know that about the battery and propane tank. I agree, those 2 things alone could account for the difference.

I think my dealer said that the tongue weight on our 177 with the battery and full propane tank was 280 lbs.  Does anyone know (in general)  how much of the tongue weigh is transferred to the TV?

Well     ...that's consistent with my measurment. Not sure what you mean by "how much does it transfer". I would say, at minimum, it's the 280lbs of downward load on the tow vehicle hitch    ...but maybe I misunderstand your question.

All of it at rest.  There may be some load differences due to aerodynamic lift/drag, but I doubt that is much.

No, you didn't misunderstand.  If I had bothered to read my post I would have realized that I forgot to add "when using a weight distribution hitch."  Cry

I think that most of the tongue weight will still be borne by the TV but some of it will transferred to the front wheels of the TV. Some of it will be transferred to the trailer as well but how much will depend on the bars on the WDH.

To be complete, as noted, the brochure weights do not include ANY options, like the A/C, propane, etc... But, they also don't include the microwave, TV/DVD, r-dome, and even the axel risers! (not that the axel risers would factor into the tongue weight, but......)
