OK    ...so we used to own a T@B teardrop camper - - let's get that out of the way first. Still belong to their Yahoo user group. Just so happens a T@B owner has a camper with a box or case awning from a company called "Carefree of Colorado". Saw pics and due to the small size and exaggerated curve of the roofline the edges of the awning stick out beyond the roof     ...but it's funtional.

Anway, since we are just up the road a piece here in Wyoming I decided to contact the company and get a brochure and specs. Turns out they have a model that would work on a Pod. One requirement would likely be that I remove the track for the R-Dome, which really doesn't bother me since we don't use it anyway (still new in box).

This was a long winded way of asking if anyone else has considered going this route and if so    ...was it sucessful. I would really like to have a traditional RV awning on our 177.

Thanks in advance,

Any way to post a pic of this model?

This reminds me, someone on another forum I visit just bought an Aliner - it has an interesting self-supporting awning which looked like a possible winner for the pod, too.  Just found a pic from an Aliner brochure:

Found a link with lots more pics.  Apparently it is called a "Fast Pack" awning.

Looks dangerously like a kite just waiting to fly.

I wonder how it holds up to even a slight breeze?

Our neighbor just sold his Aliner.  I would be afraid that awning would act like a sail, and the trailer would wind up in Oz.  Not a lot of weight there...

No    ...this is a traditional vinyl awning with poles that can either be attached to the side of the camper or rest on the ground.

Here's a link to a picture of it on Facebook. The T@B is considerably shorter than a Pod so it sticks out at both ends. On the Pod it would not extend past the roofline.

I agree that it would catch every breeze - but so does any awning, including the R-Dome.  Especially when it is all unzipped.  Probably isn't much easier for setup, you would still have to slide it into a channel, put together a long tent pole and insert it, then stake down the two cords.  All about the same as the Dome.  Then again, the Dome's biggest drawback is all the material you have to deal with.  Not much material in that Fast Pack.

Darn guys.  Don't be so hard on the awning that comes with the Aliner.  Compared to the awning we have on our R-Pods, ............................... oh, that's right.  We don't have one.

I do sometimes miss the bag awning from our popup days.  At least it was already attached to the camper.

Same here.  My wife and I were talking about this the other day.  Certainly, not the best of an awning, but definitely better than nothing.
