I wanted to start this thread, specifically for Toyota Tacoma owners who pull an R-Pod. As you can see in my sig, I have an '07 TRD Off-Road Taco, pulling the smallest of the R-Pods, the RP-151. Let's makes this thread the place to discuss our specific towing configurations, etc.

We've got a 2011 Tacoma, 4dr, short bed, 6 cyl - 6 spd manual trans - TRD Off Road package. Right now are pulling a teardrop rv that weighs a little less than an R-Pod. We are planning to buy the 177 model R-Pod soon and with the possible exception of a different hitch (rise or drop) to accomodate level towing of the pod.

We have a 2007 Tacoma with V6, tow package, auto trans, 2wd. On first two trips, our 151 tows OK, burn gas going over mountains and staying at 55-60 mph, feels like it would be more comfortable at 45. Can see right side wheel in rear view mirror, left is visible only in little magnifier mirror inset so not easy to see--problem at night, can't see either wheel. Think we will get lights installed on tops of fenders. Sway has not been a problem, but have not been in windy conditions yet (like Colorado!).

We have an 07 Tacoma, 6 cyl w/4wd. Haven't pulled our new Pod much, only about 100 miles. We did add an equalizer hitch even though I wasn't sure we needed it. Rig seems to handle fine but the real test is coming up in a couple of weeks when we make a month long camping excursion to the Gulf Coast. Consensus seems to be keep it at 60mph or less and gas is better. Makes sense.

Keeping it at 60 will help with mpgs, yes, but ou may find going a little faster will help prevent downshifts on smaller humps in the road due to additional momentum.

You'll probably be forced to stay in 4th gear, not overdrive (use the 4 and not the D). |
