We are new owners of model 177 which we took on our first trip last week. Everything was great except.....The smoke alarm.... every time we made toast, cooked or turned on the furnace, the alarm went off. Does anyone have any experience with this and a solution??????

Before cooking I always pull the battery (unless I forget)<vbg>.

I have had the smoke alarm go off when cooking...but never had the alarm go off when the furnace came on. Smoke alarms generally detect the particles in smoke...I wonder if there is a lot of dust in the new furnace which is being blown out into the Pod. If so, the dust should quickly be blown out. The alarm mounting is pretty standard...you may wish to replace the alarm with a different alarm.

I've heard of others that have a problem when cooking, but we've never experienced that. I'm betting that your furnace was burning off dust, etc as Tidalwave suggested. If it keeps going off when you run the furnace, try temporarily mounting one from your house (if they are battery operated) to see if the one from the Pod is just too sensitive. If you don't have any more problems with the furnace, try using he exhaust fan in the bathroom when you cook.

I think that has happened to all of us, I read about it, but on our maiden voyage Donna was fixing breakfast and had the toaster going, after about 1 minute that smoke alarm went off and I almost jumped through the roof, since I take the battery out during cooking but leave the lid hanging down to remind me to put battery back in. the furnace draws its combution air from outside to prevent false alarms, dust will not normally set off a smoke alarm.

As a former owner of an alarm company, we installed many residential alarm systems that included smoke detectors. The method that many smoke detectors work is to check the air for smoke particles using a visual sensor. Anything which would obscure the internal sensor, including dust, spider webs, etc. will trigger the alarm. To cut down on falsley triggering the smoke detector where cooking fumes would be a problem, is to open a window and turn on the fan. This should keep most cooking fumes from triggering the alarm. When starting a new camping season, an additional item to check is the smoke detector to make sure no spiders have crawled inside the detector. Annual vacuuming will go a long way from triggering false alarms.

We slip a disposable shower cap over the alarm before doing any cooking inside.

Thanks for all of the help. Yes, the furnace only caused the alarm to go off the 1st time we ran it. Dust...explains it.
As a newbe, I appreciate the forum so much. I am learning so much from everyone's experience.
