Topic: Winter Camp French Creek, PA Posted: 05 Jan 2012 at 8:12pm |
We have a pop up canopy and curtains for containment also. We can decide which one works the best.
I still haven't winterized- kept a small heater going inside - stays at 50 or so. In the cold of yesterday - high at 28 or so - we had a freeze somewhere but melting today didn't reveal any damage. So I'll keep it warm and ready for next weekend. Foolhardiness or wisdom - time will tell.

Wow. You have bigger ones that I do. :). I'm not that far away from you and it got down to 14-degrees the other night. You may have kept it above freezing inside, but outside and underneath, I bet it was a different story. Hopefully, you at least had all your water drained.

We had 50 today in southern Indiana, I think you guys will have a great time. Take extra fire wood, and whatever warms you belly. I think winter camping could be fun if you want it to be. wish we could join you.

Thanks for the good wishes, Dane! Sounds like Tech has the answer for keeping warm. But we found a place about 3 miles away that sells good seasoned firewood (PA requires local purchase), so we'll keep it blazin'! Our adult beverage consumption will be discreet as PA has a ' no alcoholic beverages' regulation! Wish you could join us!

I was so wishing that ¡Podtástic! was not winterized when the temperature here almost got to 60 yesterday. It actually felt warm. Even now it's almost 40 outside, and I think that the temperatures are supposed to get back up to near 50.
Have fun camping!

Currently 57 on my back porch. So far the 7-day shows a high of 35 next Friday @ French Creek.
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=40.22082997283286&lon=-75.8551025390625&site=phi&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text I'm glad someone mentioned that there are TWO French Creek State Parks, I pulled up driving directions yesterday and at first it directed me to the other one... 3 1/2 hours away from me. Then I double-checked the map itself and saw I would have ended up too far north. The one near Reading is about 2 hours away. Much better.

Looking forward to this coming weekend. I will throw some wood in the back of the truck and bring it with me. This weekend would have been perfect but any time out camping is good. Do we want to do a potluck dinner on Saturday? I was thinking of something like taco soup to warm us up.

Sounds good.
This past weekend would have been nice, but at least this coming weekend doesn't have rain in the forecast. A little chilly, but not a frigid cold snap of 7 F like 2 weeks ago.
Friday: Partly sunny and breezy, with a high near 37. Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 34. Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 34.

We're getting ready for the trip. Chris is working on heavy curtains for the windows to keep the cold away from our heads. Rpodcamper - when we were there at Thanksgiving some kind soul with a woodshop had dumped a load of pine and hardwood scraps at the entrance to loop C. Most of us were able to get most of two nights of small fires from the pile. Do you know anything about this practice? We'll do our best to get some firewood also.
We would be happy to contribute to a pot luck supper. I'm sure we can whip up some goodies in the dutch oven that will satisfy everyone.
Till Friday!~!

Sometimes the wood is there and other times there is nothing.
