Topic: Furnace Operation Posted: 18 Oct 2011 at 7:22pm |
Picked up RP-172 last thursday, did the usual, read manuals, get used to systems, Problem, first time out last saturday was a little cool in the evening, LP gas fully on, stove top works great good pressure, furnace took about 2 or 3 cycles, I think of purge blowing before would put out heat, tried it this afternoon in the drive way, same results, blower runs for about 5 to 7 seconds, hear good click ( assume is gas valve opening) no heat, have to turn t-stat down wait couple minutes, turn t stat up, takes 2 or 3 tries, then good heat. Maybe Igniter problem, any one else have similar problem, I am in warranty but dealer is 40 miles away.

Mine does the same thing. I think it must be circulating the air or getting the igniter hot so it doesnt blow.

Once you get it to light is there any problem after that? I'm betting that the heater's line still has air in it at first. I don't know how the propane appliances in the 172 are laid out, but in the 171 the order from the propane tank is heater, stove, fridge. Once I prime the line by lighting the stove I never have a problem getting the heater to fire right up. However, the fridge will go through several cycles before lighting.

Ours did the same thing, we lit the stove burners and turned the water heater to propane for a minute and then tried the furance again. After that the furnace lit the very first time!

We got our 177 in August.
We discovered the propane line to the fridge would kink and shut off the gas supply when we put the slide-out out.
I don't know if you have a slideout, but some of the various hoses / lines are apparently prone to kinking when you move the slideout.
I think our problem was that the hose was cut to long, so it would kink.
