The weather was gorgeous this weekend for the Harpoon Oktoberfest in Windsor VT. We stayed at the Pine Hills KOA (just outside Woodstock VT) and had a great time hiking surrounding trails in the Quechee Gorge and Mt. Ascutney.
We have mixed feeling about this particular KOA as I love the clean and bright bath facilities but Greg hates being able to hear Rte 4 all night long. The staff are really friendly and their camp-shop is well stocked. The pool area is clean (but not open at this time of year :( ) and they do pick up recyclables and trash daily on their golf-carts.
The Harpoon Oktoberfest is all about their beer. There are only 2 food stalls and a very limited menu. It's more of a laid-back event rather than a massive fair. The best part is that they are very dog friendly.
Usually on the same weekend, there is the Mt. Snow Oktobrewfest that features at least 20 of VT's brewers, but since the entire property is no pets, we usually pass on that one. The Mt Snow event has lots more to do and is also very crowded.
We were thinking that this might be a good place for the New England (& Eastern Canada?) 2012 roundup. Harpoon Brewery also hosts the New England BBQ Championships in July and does have kid-friendly activities then too. Plus the Woodstock/Quechee area has lots for everyone.
