Topic: Battery draining with cut off switch Posted: 26 Aug 2011 at 2:25pm |
Very odd, and very unfortunate for an accessory built for something designed to be off-grid. It would be one thing to waste a little while plugged in, its quite another to waste a little when your supply is finite. I would add a switch to the jack's supply line to ensure it is truly off.

Several other members of the forum have also mentioned that their electric jacks also have a small current drain even when the switches are set to off.

That can't be good, or even normal.

If you have an electric tongue jack, check to see if it is still draining your battery. My electric jack will drain my fully-charged dual battery setup in less than a week, if I leave the jack wires connected to the batteries. There is a power drain from the jack even when its switches are in the OFF position.

During that time, if your volt meter has a continuity test (or a resistance test) you could hook it up to both sides of the switch and play around with it to see if you get continuity when it is in the off position. Key in, key out, on and off a few times, it could be intermittant.

That's the next course of action.

I suppose it could be a defective switch that is sending the juice to ground. Maybe??

Well update to my original issue. After some testing I'm again not sure what to think. I had a full charge on the battery again, and with the key in the cut off switch left it unplugged for the past 3 days. Checking the battery level each night I've had no discharge at all from the batter while it's in the on position. This morning I removed the key, in essence turning the battery off. A little over 12 hours later tonight and the battery is completely and fully discharged again. Unless anyone has another suggestion now, I will be removing the switch entirely tomorrow.

I think calling Interstate's Customer Service was the key to getting this battery issue resolved as they in turn talked to the company store here locally. I showed up today at the Interstate Battery Store in Dayton with battery in hand as well as sales invoice for purchase of R-Pod. Without any hesitation the manager took my battery and explained he didn't have the identical one in stock but had the next larger battery. He charged me $15.00 for the difference in the upgrade and I was on my way. I am completely satisfied at this point. Thanks for all the suggestions from those who posted.
