Topic: To HRE or not to HRE Posted: 26 Jul 2011 at 1:19pm |
THAT is the question ! We will be back home in Laramie the first week in August and have identified 2 Forest River dealers within a reasonable driving distance. Pretty sure that we have our T@B sold (fingers crossed behinf back) so will be able tomove fairly quickly on an R-Pod, provided we can get our hands on a 177.
The big question is ...do we need the HRE or would we be just as satisfied with the standard 177 model that had the "Lifter" option installed.
We're leaning toward the standard 177 to save a few $$$
Any opinions ...one way or the other ?
Thanks in advance,
MJ

Personal opinion the HRE is just a gimmick. I don't see Rpods beeing extreme off road vehicles for one thing, sure some of us boondock but I don't think it's done at the end of dirt and mud road with giant rocks to scale along the way. The diamond plate, well it's pretty, I want some myself just because I think it looks nice and am thinking of buying some and modding my Pod just for the look of it. As far as risers, I think everyone who has them standard loves them and everyone who's added them thinks they are well worth the money. HRE I'd say no, just get the standard 177 and get the risers added before you pick it up!

On the HRE, the 15" off-road tires might give you a bumpier ride on regular roads. If you're pulling the Pod any distance you may not like that. Of course, I'm NO expert - so I hope that maybe some of the guys that know will jump in on this topic and give you a more expert opinion than mine.

If I was to go with the HRE I would swap the 15" off-road tires with Street tires. Would help pulling it down the highway. Here in the east going off road is like going maybe 1/2 mile in a dirt road.

HRE is the Hood River Edition. Just a name used for Pods manufactured out west that have the bigger tires, diamond plate on the front and axle risers standard on them.

Only the manufacturing plant in Oregon makes the HRE, the one in Indiana does not. Most likely yours came from the one in Indiana Damour.

One can buy plastic diamond plate material at home centers and other places. It could be cemented on with silicone or a contact adhesive. You probably could find a wall paper hanger or some one with similar experience to put it on.
