MM, we keep the small freezer pack in the freezer until we are ready to come home then put it in the refrigerator to keep everything cold on the way home. Seems to work pretty well.
When our propane ran out on our second trip due to the leak in the hose, we limited the door opening and put the freezer pack in the fridge for the last day of the trip and things were still cold. I find our refrigerator is pretty well insulated.
Campfires are Not included in the dark skies, nor are flashlights for taking "the long walk" , just extra lights outside. Not a problem for us as in forty years of tent camping we never carried even a Coleman lantern -did make for a few meals cooked by headlights though!

Outbound, maybe it is an Alberta thing? Or maybe the fellow at our walk through was just being extra cautious.
