Topic: Its finally Here Posted: 11 Apr 2011 at 12:14am |
Our new 171 arrived this afternoon and I have to say I'm quite pleased. We had it delivered from RV Nation, but unfortunately there really wasn't any walk thru on the systems so I will probably be posting a lot of questions soon. The other problem was when the pod came up the driveway a stabilizer jack must have been lower then the others and was pretty much ripped off. I see a set of risers in my future, so the work already begins On the plus side we've already started to make it our own.

Congrats! I had the same problem, the rear stabs scraped badly several times, the steps too. I finally installed the risers last weekend. They should be standard equipment IMO. I love the stick figures, I've seen them on vans but never thought about putting them on the back window of the 'pod. Good idea.

Riser are a definite plus. We had ours install when we bought it. It also make dumping somewhat easier due to the additional height.

Does anyone have a pic of what those risers look like? I understand the principle but I don't quite understand what they look like or how they are put on. A BEFORE and AFTER pic would be really good!

It is really just a metal box, maybe 8 inches long by 4 inches wide. The 4 inches is the additional height you gain. You take 2 bolts out, drop the axle 4 inches, insert the box and put the 2 bolts back in. Then you add 2 new bolts on the top.
I really, really should have taken before and after pics of the whole rig and the area where the risers are installed. Sorry I didn't.

Doug, where did you end up getting the risers from ? I think I'm going to have to install them asap, they are pretty easy to install yourself right ?

I know many people have ordered them directly from Forest River. I know people have installed them themselves. You might do a search to see what comes up. Also, I think you might try the same on the other forum.

Here you go. This points to my post with the phone number, but there is more above my post if you scroll up (plus I think this is page 2 of the thread, so you might want to go back to page 1).
They aren't too difficult to do yourself, just be sure you get the bolts tight and make sure the marked end of each nut goes on last (on mine it had a bunch of dots), that is the end that bites into the bolt to keep it secure. You'll need 4 jack stands and a large floor jack to help hold the axle in place when you lower it.
