There's nothing like seeing a shuttle launch, I remember while I was going to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona watching several day launches and one night launch. I wish I had driven down to the cape and see one up close, but they scrubbed all the time for one reason or another. Everyone knew when they were going up and class basic came to a halt when they were ready- we would all pile out of class to see the launch. We were in Daytona, but it was still quite a site. While heading to the cape, remember to stop at Ron Jon Surf Shop, A1A Cocoa Beach, open all day, every day. I even got to see Bachman Turner Overdrive in concert in Cocoa Beach. Either way, Kennedy Space Center is a must!

Yeah, we are still going. I'm still bummed. But now we'll take advantage of the 'visit 2nd day free' options on our SeaWorld and Kennedy Space Center tickets and get some extra time to hit other sites. I just booked the KSC bus tour for that Friday, we'll have to take the 'pod with us, do the tour and then hit the road. Now my wife is trying to talk me into flying us down for the new launch date. |

Gotta tell you all that one of the benefits of being a native Floridian is watching every shuttle launch by stepping outside. A few have been cloud obscured until pretty high but WOW is it neat to see them. I never tire of it.
I used to take my babies outside and point to the sky! Those babies are now in the late 20's and early 30's but they do remember some of the launches. ![]() Also, to cement how old I am getting....we went to Disney World the weekend it opened. Cost $7.95 and you got a coupon book for the sights and rides. GEEZ I am depressing myself..... ![]() |

So much for those plans, the Shuttle launch is being delayed by a week and a half due to a conflict with a Russian supply ship. They couldn't have figured this out months ago?!?

Sweet! I remember taking the bus tour in the mid-80's, they let the kids get off while we were parked on the landing strip. I took off running looking for any possible pebble or chunk of concrete I could take home as a memento. I think I gave the tour leader a heart attack he started yelling at me to come back. LOL. Never did find anything, the strip was still too new and too well maintained. |

No one ever is, including myself. A friend of mine had suggested it, and I wasn't expecting much. We had a half-day to fill, so we thought why not? Maybe that's why it was such an unexpected surprise. You'll have a great time at the launch. Kennedy Space Centre is a fantastic destination - I could have spent another day there exploring. I still remember being 10 years old, standing on the side of a highway watching the launch of a Venus Orbiter on an Atlas-Centaur... < ="-" ="text/; =utf-8">

profmagic, the campground you are thinking of is at Jetty Park. There is a day-use park on the beach too, just south of the campground, which is where I plan on watching. I didn't even try to call the campground, there is a negative chance that they have anything open. Map of Jetty Park here psaman - my biggest worry about our original plan was that it would get scrubbed and rescheduled for the next day and we would have to go home. Now we have more flexibility if that happens - as long as it doesn't get rescheduled for a week later. I did see that 2 tour carriers have tickets available to get on the KSC grounds for the launch, but it would be nearly $450 to do that. I'll stick with Jetty Park, we have 2 other week-long trips this summer and I'm still not sure how I'm paying for all of this! Outbound - we asked the kids last night and they voted for Sea World. I would have preferred one of the Universal parks. The wife wasn't too enthusiastic about Gatorland but I did suggest it. Can't wait! |
