Topic: New 181G owner Posted: 19 Mar 2011 at 6:38pm |
My wife and I just picked up our 181G on Wednesday the 16th, March 2011. We're very happy about it and have a test run set up for the weekend of the 8th and 9th of April. We had an initial problem with a bad television antenna, but got that resolved. I'm wondering if, since I'm a newby, anybody might have some recommendations for that test run we're going to do.

Welcome to the forum! We just picked up our 176T three weeks ago and are set to take off this next week on our first trip out of dry dock. We have spent these weeks checking the unit, making some modifications and learning how everything works. I think our priorities were:
1) electrical, 12V and propane systems(we really focused on getting a good surge protector) and understanding how switching between the systems works
2) security (purchasing a good lock to prevent someone taking our precious pod easily while we are out of camp--probably rare but we didn't want to be the ones it happened to; we also changed out the storage locks since they are the generic key every RV has!)
3) making sure we knew how all the tanks--- potable, grey and black water tanks work
These is a quick idea of what we focused on based on our RV experience...which is absolutely none.
Note: We have towing/backing experience since we have hauled horses for years but I would think that would be a huge priority when just starting out.
Enjoy your Pod!

Welcome! My first recommendation is to try a night at "camp driveway". Set up at home and then start a list of everything you find you need but don't have - either at home or at all. That way you won't go on your first real trip and find you are missing 100 things but the closest store is 20 miles away.

And if you can't participate in camp driveway, find the closest campground to home. The town I live in prohibits campers on private property unless you find a way to get it off the driveway.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention we're in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Our first test is going to be close. NAS Corpus Christi Campground. We have friends bringing their trailer too. I'm sure he'll have more to add.
