welcome to the group. I have family there in the villages so who knows we may meet out that way one day.

I agree, I hadn't thought of looking into replacing that window with one that opens.  Definitely want to see it.

Welcome kayak lady.  An opening rear window would be cool.  If anyone gets that mod I'd love to see it.

Thanks Ben & Lorrie for the tip. I usually have someone with me to help with the backing up step but think I'll add the stake and tape to my 'travel bag' just in case.

We love our 177 and have been out on several occasions before the winter set in. I am planning a trip to Charlotte in March for a few days.   I have found that I can center the trailer hitch while backing up by taping a green garden stake to the hitch crank so that I can see it out of the back window.  It does take some practice not to run into the hitch but at least it is centered and I do not have to go back and forth to center it.  It is a LOT cheaper that the fancy hitch guides and cameras on the market.  Glad to have you in the POD family.

Welcome to the group and wish you many happy travels in your Pod!
Backing up gets easier, the more you do it.  I'm always a little rusty the first trip or two out each year.  Rare is the person who gets it perfect on the first try Smile

Welcome! We like to kayak too. We are new at it and still learning on inflatables but do most of our kayaking around Amelia Island (near Jacksonville). Great to have another NEWBIE to the forum.

I think backing up is probably challenging for most of us, but it will get better the more we do it...I hope!!!Smile

Welcome to the world of podding.  We also have a 176 and enjoy it immensely.  We had it out this past weekend after about a month of not being out.  I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your as we have.  Again, Welcome

WOW! thanks for the welcome. How great is it to hear from other kayakers who are Pod owners too. Hadn't thought about the rear window option. I carry my kayak on the car, a Toyota Venza. Also have some kayak buddies who travel with me. We have a three boat trailer and many times need a shuttle car so have planned to just take two cars when needed.
