Topic: Slide Out Cover Posted: 11 Jan 2011 at 2:12pm |
I remember reading a thread or a post last year, about a cover for the slide out. I have searched, but cannot find anything. There is a groove/channel up there that looks similar to the r-dome channel. Does anybody have any info on this? Thanks.

I dont remember a post here about it. I do remember someting about Forest River not wanting people to cover that area up but I may be wrong on that also.

Yes it was on the other forum; someone made a cover themselves and it looked nice. Have not heard anything about Forest River not wanting that covered up though. I wonder why the channel is there?

I did a bit more checking and called my dealer to ask about the slideouts and what the channel was for. They told me it acts like a rain gutter. I then asked about putting a cover on it and they said that Forest River had advised them not to. They are not sure why but was going with that.
If your camper is out of warrenty you could go to an awning shop and have one made if you wanted. Just keep an eye on it and see if it does anything.
I don't have a slide on mine as I have the 171 model so I can not try it.

Yea, I don't see what harm it would do, especially if it just covered the top, to keep debris off and possibly pooling water. Now if it was too long it might cover the fridge vents, but that would block the window and who would want that?

I spoke with Forest River today, they will have a 'Topper' out in about 3 months. And that is what the rail is for over the slide out, to mount a 'Topper' (cover)

Makes sense, since other campers have them for their slide-outs. Thanks for the update.

That's good news; I can't wait for it to come out. Thanks.
