Thanks all for the feedback, and Outbound thanks for reminding me to check about the load... the 62db was for no load and econo mode on.
Looks like it's back to searching for a good deal. Maybe I should check out Craig's list for a used Honda 2k ;) |

Hi Lee and Myra miss you guys. I have been hiding out here most of the time. As you know we sold our place in weslaco but planning on coming down in the first part of Nov as i do not want to have to winterize the pod. I think the doctors will let me out of town as i am still a survivor as of now.
My air is a Dometic Duro-Therm model 579 which is a 11,000 btu unit with heat strip, It draws 8 amps for compressor when running i do not know what it uses for start up. Run your fan on high and like you did no eco on it should run the air. We are going to take the pod up to Lake Superior next week, Duluth, as the leaves are starting to change, will need heat at nite up there on lake. Hope to see more pods on the way. Keep the storms out of there. |

My Podterfly is in storage (about 200miles away), but when I go the Round Up next month I'm going to make sure I have the manuals for the a/c and the generator, plus fresh spark plug and gas. Hopefully we (me and other podders) can find a little time to run both through a couple of trials. It's hard for me to be on the inside and see/hear what the generator is doing on the outside. Already have a copy of the usage amps from another post, to make sure everything gets turned off.
To answer your question yes eco was off, when i could get the a/c to kick in I just ran a couple of fans and put it back on eco (by the way it ran for over 6 hours without a problem). Lee ![]() |

HI cane haven't seen you on in a while. Hope both of you are doing well. Are you guys coming back down to Texas for the winter?
I have a 11,000BTU a/c and haven't been able to run the A/c and I have a 2000ihonda does that make a difference. I goes into overload and turns off when I turn the A/c on. Is there soemthing special I should be doing? Lee

I have a Honda 2000 and it runs my air or heater, BUT i did not get a 13,500 BTU air I had the dealer install a 11,000 btu air with heat strip it draws 8 amps for the compressor. The air is Dometic Duo therm 11,000 Btu. Just make sure you run the fan on high speed then the compressor will not shut down the generator. The 11,000 is plenty big for the pod i wish i could have found a 7,000 at the time i would have put that in instead.

62 db is bordering on unacceptable and your neighbours will certainly be very aware that you're running a generator. At 15', that would sound like putting your ear next to a washing machine. You might be interested in reading a recent off-topic post about generators that was buried in another thread: http://rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1309&PID=11794&title=measured-wattage-of-pod-appliances#11794

The i stands for Inverter Generators provide cleaner energy to power sensitive electronic (laptops etc). When I was looking someone purchased a honeywell and didn't like it(that was only one post). Unfortunately I don't think it was handle the load on the A/C. I have a 2000ihonda and can run the fan but not the a/c compressor (so far I want to try different combinations of turning off switches but haven't had the opportunity). Right now I'm not in a situation that I will need to run the A/C off the generator, but when I start traveling more I'll probably buy a second generator and run them together. So right from the get go you might consider buying two (cheaper then one HONDA), it's my understanding that they need to be the same type/company to run together. My two cents Lee ![]() |
