Topic: Axle Risers Posted: 30 Aug 2010 at 9:19am |
Thinking of adding axle risers to my 177. It is mentioned on the forum that there are pictures of the risers on one of the posts but I can't locate them. Afriend of mine looked at the Pod and said that he should be able to fabricate a set for me. Also the height of the risers are referred to as being anywhere from 3 inches to 4 inches high. I thought it was a 4 inch riser? There is a post by "tsunami" who installed them himself (great instructions). Is is on this post that he mentions the pictures of the risers. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I paid $250 including shipping via Coates RV last fall for my risers...someone recently mentioned that they were able to buy risers directly from Forest River for about $75.00. I would recommend getting the risers from Forest River. The factory made risers have decent gussets welded to the main pieces and the attachment holes. The risers also included high-strength steel bolts. I don't think that someone could fabricate a couple of risers for that price in their own shop...if you include the measuring/cutting/drilling/welding and time involved.

You are absolutely right about ordering directly from Forest River. It is going to be interesting to see how much more it will cost to get them shipped across the border!!!!!!! I havn't got a price yet from my dealer here in Canada.

I've called FR twice and left a message both times, still waiting to hear back so I can order my risers...

If you can, request that they ship via USPS (as opposed to a courier like UPS or Purolator). It'll only take a day or two longer, but you won't be saddled with exorbitant brokerage fees when it arrives at your door. Expect to pay HST on the parts at your door, regardless of the carrier.

Or find someone on this side of the border to ship them to. Then drive over and pick them up. Don't declare them when you go back home. Cheaper that way. Terry

I would offer to be a shipping point, but I'm nowhere near the border. If anyone plans a trip down the East Coast, just let me know. I think we are also planning on visiting Niagra next summer and we could meet up.
BTW, FR called me back this morning, my risers are on the way.

There have been several people who have installed them by themselves. I had my dealer install them while the camper was in for other service. I did not feel they cost too much.

Does anyone have a phone number or email address for Forest River to order the riser kit. I have finally decided to install them on the RPod. There was a post for instructions to install them yourself, if anyone knows where that can be found that would help too. The heighth of the risers are they 3 1/2" and the cost from Forest River about $100.00? Thakyou David
I found the number for Surveyor 574-642-3119 and ordered the 3" risers they were $75.00 plus shipping estimated to be about $15.00 to $20.00 to south Fla. Now I will have to install them which I hope will not be to difficult. David
