Yeah, headed up to Donner Lake this coming weekend (first trip in the mountains with the pod).  Will take our time....

That is a neat area.  We visited the monument last summer for the second time. The first time we visited I wondered why the monument was so high then learned that it is the height of the snow that trapped the Donner Party.

That is a fact. It's not unusual to see > 500 inches of snow in many Sierra areas. That's over 40 feet of snow.

We went cross-country skiing with some friends once. We stopped for a picnic, and when one of the guys unstrapped and stepped off his skis, he went down 12 feet! It was entertaining getting him back up.
