Okay,

Figured it out.
In the panel above the door is a light sensor that is not very securely fastened and if it is too far from the surface it does not register the light changes when you open or close the door.
Put it right down to the surface and glue it in place somehow, otherwise it will shake loose on a bumpy road.

Thumbs UpThanks, I have one ordered. I bet it is the sensor loose. I couldn't find it any where and the people at camping world had never seen one like that.

Found the sensor, I think, on the right side of the circuit board enclosure in the panel above the fridge door. It appears to be securely clipped in place tight against the surface. I opened the back of the circuit board enclosure and checked all the edge connectors on the board to make sure they were all secure too.
 
Pulled the fuse, let it set, replaced fuse, fired fridge up on 12V,  and the light still doesn't work. I'll plug 'er into the hydro later and check it out further.

The sensor is a little black rod, and the end opposite the wire connection should sit at the bottom of the plastic  cover.
The side of the rod is not so important I think.

Yep, that's it. It looks like it's in the right position, so there must be something else wrong.
 
Since LEDs last forever, I suspect it may be a timer issue. No schematic, so I don't know if the timer is on the circuit board with the LEDs or on the board above the fridge door. I'll send a volt or so to the LEDs right on their board and see if they light up.

Actually,
Right after I "fixed" the light , I was so happy that I did not give the situation any further thought, but now I think that the sensor is a magnetic one, so would be activated by metal in the door when it opens, hence it did not work when not close to the bottom surface.
Good idea to power up the leds on their own, although I suspect they will work.
Very intriguing all this.

Still not sure what rod you al are talking about.  Could you take a picture so that I can understand.  Just went out to the trailer and don't see anything like what you are talking about.   Dead   Sure would appreciate it.
