The inverter would address your assumptions, it would have to have a 12V source (outlet), but allow you to use present TV and no change to functions with shore power. The issue to me, is what is your plan to recharge 12V battery with this added load. You said no generator, so pretty much leaves you with solar and the tow vehicle.

The 19" Jensen TV that came with our 2016 179 was rated to only consume 17W. I doubt you could even find an inverter that small, so just about any would do.
Another advantage to sticking to an AC television is variety. You'll have an almost limitless selection of TV models to choose from. 12V televisions in larger screen sizes (larger than portable) are few and far between. We have a 24" Samsung LED TV in our 179 now, which has much better picture quality and viewing angles. |

1 Yes.
2. Not necessarily. You can purchase a small inverter to use. Just make sure it is large enough to support the television but not so large it wastes power. A small inverter will cost a lot less than a 12V television. but a 12V television will not have the power waste of an inverter. 3. Yes, but see #2. I have an inverter that I can use. We have not used it much as we have not had a signal strong enough to use when we have been boondocking. Hope this helps. |

Want to be able to use television while Boondocking without having to use the generator. Any way to convert to use 12 volt battery? Are my assumptions below correct?
1. Need 12 volt outlet. 2. Need a 12 volt television. I believe the current one in our 179 RP is 110/120v? 3. If I swap out to a 12 volt tv, it will will still work when I am plugged into shore power. Thanks |
