Want to be able to use television while Boondocking without having to use the generator.  Any way to convert to use 12 volt battery?  Are my assumptions below correct?

1.  Need 12 volt outlet.
2.  Need a 12 volt television.  I believe the current one in our 179 RP is 110/120v?
3.  If I swap out to a 12 volt tv, it will will still work when I am plugged into shore power.

Thanks

1 Yes.
2. Not necessarily. You can purchase a small inverter to use. Just make sure it is large enough to support the television but not so large it wastes power. A small inverter will cost a lot less than a 12V television. but a 12V television will not have the power waste of an inverter.
3. Yes, but see #2.

I have an inverter that I can use. We have not used it much as we have not had a signal strong enough to use when we have been boondocking. Hope this helps.

The 19" Jensen TV that came with our 2016 179 was rated to only consume 17W. I doubt you could even find an inverter that small, so just about any would do.

Another advantage to sticking to an AC television is variety. You'll have an almost limitless selection of TV models to choose from. 12V televisions in larger screen sizes (larger than portable) are few and far between.

We have a 24" Samsung LED TV in our 179 now, which has much better picture quality and viewing angles.

The inverter would address your assumptions, it would have to have a 12V source (outlet), but allow you to use present TV and no change to functions with shore power. The issue to me, is what is your plan to recharge 12V battery with this added load. You said no generator, so pretty much leaves you with solar and the tow vehicle.

Thank you for your helpful response.  We want it just to watch movies off our ipad while we boondock.  We do have a generator but it seems crazy to run it for two hours to watch move when I can recharge my battery in 20 minutes.  Do you have a recommendation on an inverter?  I assume the inverter gets plugged in to 12 volt outlet and then the tv?

The inverter needs a 12V source, that can be a 12 volt outlet, but most are cigarette lighter plug adaptable or hooked directly to 12V line. According to Bum the TV is not high drain. So you have a wide choice. Look at Camping world, Amazon and etrailer for options. Personally I would go for a minimum 1000 watt. You're not trying to run the microwave. But nice to have more than needed. Recommend a sine wave or modified sine wave and the cooling fan operates when needed. My Pod didn't have a 12V plug until I added it on a spare 12V line.

That is one honkin' inverter. Anywhere near 1000 watts would create >80 amp drain on the battery(ies), and require very large wires. I would rather see ~~ 400 watt inverter (which could potentially pull over 30 amps, which is still pretty hefty) that had a pure sin wave.

The https://smile.amazon.com/BESTEK-Power-Inverter-Adapter-Charging/dp/B0040U3MI8/ - Bestek 150W Power Inverter is the one I bought for use with the television. I have a larger one that I did not want to use for the television because of the larger power draw and the fan noise it makes when it is running. 150W is more than enough for the television plus it has dual USB charging ports which also can come in handy if you don't want to install a dedicated USB charging port alongside the 12V outlet you will need to install.

That's a nice size, and I like the USB plugs. Two birds with one stone.

That's the size and type (pure sine wave) we put in our 179 and it has worked out well. I can even run the humidifier on my CPAP with it.
