To address your biggest fear.. "chocks first, chocks last."
Your pod should NEVER be unhitched without being chocked. Never. Other then that.. we were all new.. didn't die first trip.. enjoy. |

I hope when you bought your R-pod 171 that you checked the stabilizers and are still attached. With stabilizers and chock blocks used properly, you should sleep worry free. I slept like a baby in my R-pod 171 through a major storm with winds clocked at 50mph my 171 rocked a little but never moved an inch.

I highly recommend several hours of YouTube videos showing things like using the waste tanks, and how to empty them at dump stations. I was in the same exact situation in 2012 with my very first ever camper and new to camping general. YouTube helped immensely.
For things specific to the R Pod itself, this forum is THE place to be. Rubber wheel chocks are superior tot the small plastic chocks that come with starter kits. There are far better sewer hoses available, and reading up on battery use, care, and maintenance is important.

Has your pop-up ever rolled away from you while you were sleeping? The R-Pod won't either. Just chock the wheels just as you would with the pop-up.
Unlike the pop-up and depending on your tow vehicle (TV), you may want to get an equalization hitch with sway control or just sway control if the TV is big enough that weight distribution is not needed. Like the pop-up, loading so that about 10-15% of the total weight is on the tongue of the trailer is important to avoid sway also. For example, if the total loaded weight is 2,500 lbs, the tongue weight should be 250 lbs. Too little weight increases the possibility of sway. Carrying some basic tools helps. Techntreks's R-Pod Instruction and Maintenance Manual will help answer a lot of your beginner's questions. |

Hey all! After looking all summer my husband and I just bought a 2016 171. We are taking it out in 2 weeks and I'm scared it's going to roll away while we are sleeping or something! We bought it from a previous owner so we really don't have a lot of hands on training. Can you tell me what you think are the more important tips to remember? I'm not new to camping but we've just had a pop up- this is a whole new level of gadgetry!
