+1 on keeping it at 130 so you have more usable hot water.  6 gallons is barely enough even with Navy showers.

The risk of scalding goes up a lot at 140 degrees so I don't recommend going there (not that the OP will).  I just installed a new WH in my home a few weeks ago and it has a digital interface where I can set the temperature with a few button pushes, up to 160 I believe.  It defaulted to 120 and I set it for 130.

Just below 120 you start flirting with Legionnaire's which is partly why I prefer 130.

OK- Thanx guys.  Tomorrow I was going to tear up my bed to get to the RP-179 electric water heater and try to adjust the heater- glad you informed me.  I got plenty of other stuff to do.  RoadToad

The thermostats are not adjustable. There are alternate thermostats available, but only +/-10 degress from the original 130F.

Electric hot water heater way too hot. Where is thermstc adjustment for this. I'm guessing atop hot water tank?
