Cats in RPods & weekend trip report in Fort Langle

We are back from our first, experimental pod trip with our cat, Ted.  It was a great success!  Thanks again to those who posted with helpful feedback about their own "cat podding" experiences.  Ted LOVED the RPod 179. From the second we let him loose in it, he was rolling around and purring like he'd owned the Pod all his life.  It was as though from Ted's perspective, the RPod is exactly the right size "cave" for the three of us - he seemed to love the security, and he spent most of his time monitoring the goings-on in the campground from the bedroom or slider window. 

Less successful were our attempts to get Ted to enjoy the great outdoors, either on his leash or in the beagle-sized crate we bought for him.  It just goes to show you that what's enjoyable for a human being isn't necessarily what a cat wants -- at all.  We got him outside a couple times, just because we'd like him to start getting used to it, but we didn't push it.  Mostly Ted enjoyed the weekend from inside the RPod.

This was also our first trip to the Fort Camping RV park in Fort Langley, BC (Fort Langley is a far-removed suburb of Vancouver, BC). Here's the website for anyone interested: http://www.fortcamping.com  

Our report on Fort Camping would be that it's a GREAT site for anyone with small children (they seemed to be running unsupervised in packs, and it seemed perfectly safe and enjoyable for them to do so) - they had tons of activities lined up for children, and as a parent it looked like you could basically say "goodbye" to your kid in the morning, not see him/her til supper time, and actually feel okay about that. We're not at that stage of our lives (being 51 & 54), so the presence of tons of kids was a neutral-to-faintly-negative thing for us (no offence to parents out there, but they're noisy, those little yard apes ...). 

Fort Camping has an adjacent walking/biking/running trail which runs along the Fraser River and is very scenic and lovely to walk along. The campsite also has a small swimming pool (packed with kids), a full-service store for milk, pop, ice cream and fast food meals, a full playground and am amphitheatre. 

For older adults without kids, we would say the best thing about Fort Camping is its proximity to the small community of Fort Langley, BC, which is very much like Cannon Beach, OR or the small towns you see on the coast in northern California. Scenic, full of great restaurants and boutiques, great food and wine shopping, artisan goods, etc.  If you were looking for a campground which would give you proximity to Vancouver (about an hour's drive away), but still offer a semi-rural feel, this would be a great place.
